Leamington P-P Kings Lynn; League leaders Kings Lynn did not play today and remained top when 2nd place York lost. Kings Lynn remain 1 point in front with three games in hand.

York;
Boston 3-1 York; York got off to a great start in this game, taking the lead after 7 mins. They conceded the equaliser 7 mins before half time. In the second half, both teams had chances, Boston scored twice to win the game. York remain in 2nd place, six points ahead of Boston.

Boston;
Boston 3-1 York; Boston’s hot streak continues with a home win over second place York 3-1. Boston fell behind early but equalised in the 38th min to be tied at half time. Both teams had chances in the second half, Boston scored after 52 and 79 mins to win the game. They are now 6 points behind York with two games in hand.

Chester;
Chester 2-1 Blyth; After two losses, Chester returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Blyth. They lead at half time after a 12th min goal. Blyth were reduced to ten men before Chester scored a second on 70 mins. A Blyth goal 9 mins from time completed the scoring.

Brackley;
Spennymoor 0-0 Brackley; Brackley have not won in four games, but were able to scratch out a goalless draw against playoff chasing Spennymoor in a game of few chances.

Altrincham;
Altrincham 1-1 Kettering; After Altrincham had beaten Telford 5-2 in midweek, today looked like another three points home to Kettering, Altrincham struggled today, falling behind after 18 mins to trail at half time 0-1. Alty equalised after 68 mins but were unable to find a winner, the game finished 1-1.

Gateshead;
Curzon Ashton 0-1 Gateshead; Gateshead’s unbeaten streak is now 8 games (6 wins, 2 draws) and they are now two points ahead of Spennymoor with two games in hand for the 7th and last playoff spot. In a close game that was goalless at half time, Gateshead scored after 70 mins to grab only their third away win.

Spennymoor;
Spennymoor 0-0 Brackley; Spenny's two game win streak ended today in a dour goalless draw at home to Brackley. There were few chances in the game for both teams. Spenny in eighth place now trail Gateshead by two points.

Guiseley;
Guiseley 1-2 Telford; Guiseley’s inconsistency continues with a 1-2 home loss to Telford. Guiseley led at half time with a 34th min goal, Telford equalized on the hour, although Guiseley had chances, Telford won the game with a winner five mins from time.

Darlington;
Kidderminster 1-1 Darlington; Darlington managed to get a 1-1 draw at Kidderminster today, taking the lead after 58 mins from Will Hatfield before Kidder equalised shortly afterwards.

Farsley;
Farsley 1-1 Alfreton; After a dull first half, Farsley came from behind with a goal in the 63rd min after falling behind two mins earlier in a better played second half from both teams.

Southport;
Hereford 2-2 Southport; Southport were again unable to put away a lower league opponent, last week home to Bradford, today at Hereford. Southport led 1-0 at half time due to a 43rd min goal. After Hereford had a man sent off after 83 mins, Southport scored their second goal after 86 mins. Ten men Hereford responded with 90th and 95th min goals to leave Southport with only an away point.

Telford;
Guiseley 1-2 Telford; Darlington are no strangers to Marcus Dinanga who’s second half hat trick earlier this season led to a 3-2 Telford win. Today after trailing 0-1 at half time, Dinanga struck twice, in the 59th and 85th min to give Telford a win.

Alfreton
Farsley 1-1 Alfreton; Alfreton were able to secure an away point at Farsley, after an fairly uneventful goalless first half, Alfreton had taken the lead after 61 mins, Farsley equalised two mins later as both teams improved play led to more chances but no more goals.

Kidderminster;
Kidderminster 1-1 Darlington; Kidderminster applied a lot of pressure in this game but were not able to win the game, falling behind after 58 mins before equalising after 62 mins.

Leamington;
Leamington P-P Kings Lynn; No game today.

Hereford;
Hereford 2-2 Southport; Hereford fought back in this game after trailing 0-1 at half time, having a player sent off after 83 mins and conceding a second goal after 86 mins. A 90th min goal followed by a 95th min goal earned them a home point.

Kettering;
Altrincham 1-1 Kettering; A resolute Kettering performance saw them limit Altrincham chances throughout the game, with Kettering leading 1-0 at half time after an 18th min goal. Although Kettering conceded an equaliser just after the hour, they held on for an away point.

Curzon Ashton;
Curzon Ashton 0-1 Gateshead; Curzon Ashton competed in this game but were unable to break down Gateshead who scored the only goal of the game after 70 mins.

Gloucester;
Bradford 1-2 Gloucester; After five straight losses, Gloucester may have secured their place in the league next year with 2-1 win at Bradford that puts them 6 points and a better goal difference in front of struggling Blyth. Gloucester led 1-0 at half time after scoring in the 24th min, and added a second on 57 mins. Bradford scored ten mins later but Gloucester were able to hold on to win three valuable points.

Blyth;
Chester 2-1 Blyth; Blyth went to promotion chasing Chester and fought well but received no points in recording their fourth straight defeat. They trailed 0-1 at half time and had a player sent off after 51 mins. Despite conceding a second after 70 mins, Blyth fought on and scored in the 81st min but were unable to find a second. They are now 6 points behind Gloucester and are looking more doomed to relegation.

Bradford P.A.;
Bradford 1-2 Gloucester; Bradford needed to win this game to have any hope of escaping relegation but fell behind after 24 mins to trail at half time 0-1, and fell to 0-2 after 57 mins. Bradford scored through ex-Quaker Liam Hughes after 67 mins, they almost made it 2-2 but hit a post, ultimately losing the game. With 12 games to go, they are now 15 points behind third bottom Gloucester.

The playoff contenders, Chester was helped with a win, Boston may catch York, Altrincham and Gateshead may be too strong for the five teams below, Brackley needs to find their legs again otherwise they may slip into the pretenders group.

The playoff pretenders, Guiseley lost, the other four drew, Altrincham and Gateshead are pulling away from this group, they all need to find a hot streak as Darlington had in December and early January.

The Blyth watchers, these teams may not be safe mathematically yet, but Blyth losing four in a row and not showing they can catch them. A huge win for Gloucester at Bradford that gives them a six point cushion on Blyth with superior goal difference.

It was great fun years ago watching our star player Neil Heaney getting crunched through a pitch side advertising hoarding by a Hull City thug who was “playing to his strengths”. Heaney’s game was over at that point.

Statistically, I think we have good grounds for play-off optimism. OK, we can expect to lose to Boston tomorrow, but 8 of our remaining 13 games are against teams currently below us in the league. We have a 'good' trio of games near the end of the season - Curzon, Kettering and Bradford. Perhaps the home game against Brackley and the local derby at Gateshead could be crucial. It might even come down to the last game, at home to Kings Lynn; here's hoping they are well and truly crowned league champions by then.
Of course, statistics are one thing. What happens on the pitch is rather more important.

As always Ginge enjoyed the write up. Finally had a bit of spare time so can add my updated analysis up to 8th Feb.

League Table:


Think you've got the groupings spot on, those in the playoffs at the moment are the teams in form, I don't see the top 5 changing so its all about the other 2 spaces. Alty and Gateshead are bang in form at the moment and will be difficult to s***. Southport seem to be running out of steam, they were well up there in the playoffs at the 20 game mark but have fallen away since then.

We're very much still in the hunt with those around us. That goal difference has to be a concern though. Bit of a story of the season, failing to get a few while on top in games whereas when we're not at our best we take a bit of a pasting as shown by the consecutive 3-0 defeats to Chester and Guiseley. Just at a time when we had gotten ourselves back even on the GD front as well. A 45% win percentage compare to the common 41% of the teams around us perhaps shows a little difference between us and our competitors. We're rather an all or nothing team, we win or we lose, whereas our competitors are picking up a few more draws. Could be key in a playoff race that might well go down to the final weeks.

Home league Table:


Kings Lynn first home loss v Kidderminster was a surprise, but still an amazing home record they have at the Walks. Altrincham and Gateshead completing the top 3 home sides in the division. Wonder if there is anything to the fact that 2 of the top 3 home teams are most likely teams longest trips of the season, certainly must be hard to loosen up the legs after that sort of time on the team bus to get to these games.

We have fallen away slightly in the home form table, now down to 8th. In part down to Boston, Gateshead and Altrincham catching up on some of their home games in hand. Its still a good record, we're not free scoring, but Armstrong has definitely delivered on his promise to bring results infront of the home crowd.

Away League Table:


Kings Lynn look very likely to reassert their dominance over every inch of this league by taking away York's best away record in the division. Altrincham in 15th and Gateshead in 13th in the away form table might be worrying signs for teams that currently face away games all the way to the finals of the playoffs. Although Gateshead could improve from winning their away games in hand, should they ever get to actually play away, having their another away game at Alfreton called off tonight.

The away table really highlights our problems this season. 16th in the table, just 14 scored in 14 games and 28 conceded. We still haven't found the magic formula away from home, despite some of our most impressive performances coming away (Walsall, Solihull, York). Bit of a head scratcher for Armstrong and Holloway. One that if they can solve could well propel us into the playoffs in the final third of the season.

Points Accumulation:


I've tried to focus the table on the top 12 sides , those which Ginge probably quite rightly says are those who will challenge for the league title and the playoffs. The steep lines for Kings Lynn and York are still very impressive, But there seems to be a bit of trend that every time York close the gap of late Kings Lynn just pull away again. As for the rest of the chasing pack the lines relating to Boston who propelled themselves into 3rd and Gateshead who have 5 wins and a draw in their last 6.



A slightly different view of the points accumulation. Showing, based on accumulated points, what position teams would have taken up in the league throughout the season. Excluding the top 2 who's reign at the top is impressive. It helps to illustrate just how streaky we have been. From lows at game week 8, 11 and 20. We've gone on winning runs which have shot us up the division. Only really Altrincham have faced the same sort of up and downs we have, though this is potentially caused by their games being played out of sequence due to their FA cup run.

Form:


The form table just goes to show what we all know, we tend to pick our points up in bursts. Failure to get a win at Boston would see us equal our longest league winless run of the season at 4 games which came back in November (but that certainly isn't an easy ask). Home v Leamington or Away at Hereford may well be a more likely source of the start of our next winning run.

As for the actual form sides, the teams mentioned above in Gateshead and Boston are at the top of your 5 game form table with Kings Lynn just behind them.

What Happens Next:

The predictor hasn't been doing too badly. Following its correct prediction of the Gloucester result and score. It correctly predicted a win v Alfreton (although 2-0 not 3-0), the defeat away at Chester and the home defeat to Guiseley (although again by 2-0, not 3-0). It didn't see the 2-1 away win at Guiseley coming after it rooted heavily for the home side.



But looking forwards, it doesn't give us much hope away at Boston, heavily favouring the hosts 1, 2 or 3-0. For good reason though, Boston one of the best home sides in the division and in great form. Our away performances are only good enough for 16th in the away table and quite frankly we don't score enough away from home to give us much hope. Will be more than happy to eat my words on this one, would be a huge result if we could get something.



Better news for Saturdays game against Leamington though, with a 2-1 home win the most likely score line, followed by a 1-1 draw or a 1-0 win. Think all of us would take those points and a chance to start a new run of form at this point in the season, ready for the run in.
