York;
York 1-1 Curzon Ashton; York’s hope of creating a 5 point lead over Kings Lynn today were dashed with a 1-1 home draw with 19th place Curzon. After a goalless first half, Curzon took the lead after 72 mins, York forced a 92nd min equaliser. York now lead by three points but have played four extra matches.

Kings Lynn;
Kings Lynn P-P Southport; No game today. Kings Lynn now have four games in hand on league leaders York while trailing by three points.

Boston;
Boston P-P Farsley; No game today. On Tuesday night Boston failed to move up on the top two with a 0-3 home loss to Gateshead.

Chester;
Chester P-P Gateshead; No game today.

Altrincham;
Hereford 0-2 Altrincham; Altrincham won their second straight away game and clean sheet with a 2-0 win at Hereford. A goal just on half time and a second in the 85th min was enough for the three points. Alty are now in fifth place in the race for playoff places.

Brackley;
Darlington 1-1 Brackley; Brackley are now in 6th place after this 1-1 draw at Darlington. Despite conceding a penalty close to half time, Brackley fought back to get a 77th min equaliser. Brackley need more consistency to prevent Spennymoor and Gateshead leaping over them and pushing them out of a playoff slot.

Spennymoor;
Spennymoor 3-3 Telford; Spenny managed to salvage a point after having a sending off and trailing 1-3 at half time. Goals in the 49th and 95th min completed the second half comeback.

Gateshead;
Chester P-P Gateshead; No game today. Gateshead gained three valuable away points on Tuesday night with a 3-0 win at promotion contending Boston. Gateshead are again in the Top 8 chasing promotion/playoff places.

Farsley;
Boston P-P Farsley; No game today.

Darlington;
Darlington 1-1 Brackley; In this wind affected game, it was Darlington who were the better team and lead at half time from a 42nd min penalty by Adam Campbell. Brackley played better in the second half and grabbed a 77th min equaliser. Darlington may be unbeaten in three but they have also failed to win in five games. The teams down to 7th place have a 7 point lead over the Quakers.

Guiseley;
Kidderminster P-P Guiseley; No game today.

Southport;
Kings Lynn P-P Southport; No game today.

Alfreton;
Gloucester P-P Alfreton; No game today.

Telford;
Spennymoor 3-3 Telford; Telford led the first half 3-1 with goals in the 13th, 34th and 38th min, with Spenny equalising in the 14th min. Spenny were also down to 10 men with a sending off just before the third goal was scored. Telford were unable to hold off Spenny who scored just after the restart and again in injury time to leave Telford with only an away point .

Kidderminster;
Kidderminster P-P Guiseley; No game today.

Leamington;
Leamington P-P Bradford; No game today.

Hereford;
Hereford 0-2 Altrincham; Hereford were second best in this game, conceding goals in the 45th and 85th min to lose 0-2.

Kettering;
Blyth P-P Kettering; No game today.

Curzon Ashton;
York 1-1 Curzon Ashton; Curzon almost had a magnificent win at league leaders York, taking the lead in the 72nd min only for York to tie the game in stoppage time (92nd min).

Gloucester;
Gloucester P-P Alfreton; No game today.

Blyth;
Blyth P-P Kettering; No game today.

Bradford P.A.;
Leamington P-P Bradford; No game today.

Looks like Kings Lynn are going to win the league & confine York to the play-offs. Which is fine with me.

Kings Lynn don’t have to win all their games in hand, far from it. York find themselves in a very precarious position and need to hope K.L. have a massive drop in form.

So once again Pete is right.

Can't agree here. It's only three points with four games in hand so it's definitely advantage King's Lynn. If York were 6-9 points then I'd probably agree with you. But three points (with equal goal difference too) can easily be wiped out, even with a slip up.

Interestingly, King's Lynn have started to wobble, losing to Kidderminster and Chester so it's far from over. But you'd definitely prefer to be in their position than York's at the moment.

Thankfully we beat Spennymoor and Bamber Bridge to be promoted as the play off winner. Are points on the board better than games in hand, if I have to bet, Kings Lynn comes through, ignoring the fable of the tortoise and the hare.

If Boston win there 2 games in hand, then they'd only be a point behind York. So York are in danger of losing their home advantage throughout the play-offs. That of course assumes that York don't win automatic promotion.

Adding my 2 cents worth to your great work Ginge:

Combined League table
Image

The likes of Boston are keeping the top teams honest, if they win their games in hand they would be right in the mix and potentially bag themselves ultimate home advantage in any playoff games to come. It's still advantage Kings Lynn in my opinion even if their games in hand are mounting up. They have been brilliant this season and it would take a huge shift in form not to convert their current position.

Elsewhere, the table is starting to open out a little in key areas. Ourselves, Farsley and Guiseley being left behind in the playoff race if our form does not take a positive upturn soon. Similarly at the Bottom, Bradford are already cut adrift but Curzon and Gloucester seem able to pick up the odd result that Blyth just can't manage. Looking in no doubt at the moment Bradford and Blyth will be the teams that fall through the relegation trap door.

Home table
Image

The home form table has us 8th with a plus 6 goal difference which further highlights how poor our away form has been in comparison. Even worse is that our home form should be even better. The defeat to Bradford PA when we missed a last minute penalty, the 0-0 draw with Hereford when they played the majority of the game with 10 men and the 3-2 with Telford represents at least 6 points we have dropped from strong positions. That is the difference between us being a playoff contender and a playoff pretender.

Spenny sit top courtesy of playing 1 or 2 more home games than the rest. But I would expect Kings Lynn to retain their position at the top by the end of the season. Their record at the Walks this season has been brilliant and what promotion challenges are built on.

Away table
Image

15th in the away league table. In 15 games we have only scored 16 goals and conceded a whopping 30. That unfortunately is the reason we're not a playoff team. We only have Gateshead and Boston of the top 7 still to play away. It'll be important to pick up at least draws in these games and Wins in our remaining away fixtures to give us away form resembling that of playoff contenders.

York sit top of the away league table (although Kings Lynn can take that honour with their games in hand) perhaps showing the pressures of playing at Bootham Cresent when they are expecting promotion in their fairwell season might weight quite heavily on the players.

Points accumulation
Image

The steepness of the Boston line over that last 10 or so games is probably the standout feature, which has allowed them to close the gap on the top two. The stalling of Kings Lynn's line is a mixture of a little stumble (beaten at home by Kidderminster and away by Chester), but also that they have suffered postponements due to the weather.

At the bottom Blyth and Bradford's lines have been flat for long periods further cementing their place at the bottom of the league and their likelihood for relegation. At game week 26 Blyth were within a point of Curzon Ashton, but since then they have lost Callum Roberts and with it any real chance of pulling themselves out of the relegation mire.

Top 12 focus:
Image

This just shows further, slowing of the incline in relation to Us, Farsley and Guiseley. We won't want that gap above to get any wider. It also starts to make our game in hand away at Boston a bit of a must win if we want to give any of those playoff rivals sleepless nights.

Form table
Image

Unfortunately D is becoming a common letter for us at the moment. Having not drawn a league game since 2 November (a 0-0 v Hereford) we've now had 3 draws in a row. As Armstrong pointed out in the echo he'd rather win 1 and lose 1 than draw 2 because that win gets you more points on the board. While draws against the likes of Brackley aren't bad results, Altrincham showed on Saturday that if you have playoff ambitions you have to be able to go away to teams struggling like Hereford and get 3 points.

Elsewhere, Boston are the form team having won 5/5 to move into 3rd and start to put real pressure on York.

Next result predictor
Image

Our poor away record this season means that we can once again only hope for a tough encounter away at Telford. Hopefully the players will be keen to avenge what happened at Blackwell Meadows earlier in the season. Most likely result a 2-1 to the home side. a 1-1 second most likely and a 2-1 away win third most likely and most welcome as far as I'm concerned.

(As always when this thing predicts we might lose, I hope it's wrong)

Final league table predictor
Image
(based on results predicted by expected goals)

As I mentioned in another thread Expected Goals loves a team that doesn't concede many. Only having to score 1 to win a game makes it far more statistically likely that you'll get a result. Because of that the defensive records of York and Brackley rather make them the darlings of the predicted results table. It has York going unbeaten till the end of the season to beat Kings Lynn to the League title.

On the playoffs side of things 70+ points to make the playoffs shows just what a competitive year it would have been. By comparison. 63 and 65 points would have gotten you there in 18 and 19 respectively. Gateshead are looking good at the moment and with those games in hand still have an advantage over Spenny for that final place. Above that, i think it will be very much about playing for home advantage. Which when you look at the home and away tables above could be key for sides like Altrincham.

My personal view is still that Kings Lynn will win the league. Think once those two are swapped around the playoff picture is about right.

Playoffs predictor
Image
(based on results predicted by expected goals)

The playoffs are always a huge lottery but again carrying on from the predictions above, the predicted results will really favour the teams who don't concede many. As such, Brackley get the favourite tag as they barely concede.

Not sure I agree with it. On form, I'd have Boston to win any playoff combination that they were involved in. But these things can change very quickly based on injuries, form etc.

There's been a mantra this season of it just being a transition season, to keep expectations realistic among the fan base - and then of course there's the elephant in the room regarding ground improvements and the Rugby club. So I wonder if our players really believe they can get a top 7 place? Has A.A got them believing?

I'm not Martin Gray's number 1 fan, but in our first season back he got his team cooking on gas to get a top 5 finish and we need now find this kind of form, as an outstanding run of results is what is required.

Blimey a shock at the top as York get thumped at home to Hereford 1-4, Kings Lynn get a point at Leamington which would normally be seen as a bad result, but given York's result they'll probably be happy with picking up a point.

Blyth at Brackley this weekend is a nailed on home win. Really sorry to see Blyth struggling, I was looking forward to getting the train to Blyth on that newly opened line that has been promised by the government.

I wouldn’t get too excited about that Pete, it’s not meant to start working for a few years anyway.

Fairly ridiculous considering the line exists anyway, but there you go.
