Given that winter coincides with flu season and we are likely to have a second peak of Covid around then too, I don't think there will be any football in the winter. We are lucky that the first wave came in the spring when pressure on the NHS is lower.loan_star wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 7:20 pmThats what annoys me when people demand answers on ending lockdown, why aren't we doing this, what aren't we doing that etc.Darlogramps wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 6:44 pmWe can’t be in this holding pattern indefinitely.
And that’s just one example. It’s what the Governnment is weighing up right now. How do you keep businesses and industries going, knowing full well more people are likely to die if you loosen restrictions.
Its probably one of the hardest decisions for anyone to make as no matter what decision is made there will be people complaining with the benefit of hindsight.
With regard to football, there will come a point where a gamble has to be taken and we try and get back to some sort of normality. If that means delaying the start of the season until winter then so be it.

Quite a lot of Darlo fans have a few miles on the clock so even when restrictions are lifted and games go ahead crowds could well be down. People won’t go to football this coming winter unless they feel safe, will this even be possible? To feel safe.

We will need to run Virtual Tickets right through the season then. Alongside DFR of course.theoriginalfatcat wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 8:01 pmQuite a lot of Darlo fans have a few miles on the clock so even when restrictions are lifted and games go ahead crowds could well be down. Re: One chairman's view
It does raise the question of, if football was to be played behind closed doors at our level, whether licensing restrictions would be lifted in order for clubs to stream matches on a pay-per-view basis.
You could even possibly make the streaming role a paid position over a fixed-term period, as we would be saving on operational match-day costs. It would still bring in a healthy revenue stream, as you'd also be reaching out to those in exile who couldn't make the matches anyway.
However, no doubt if this was to go ahead then the National League would want a cut of any revenue. They seem to have an uncanny knack of jumping on volunteers' work for their benefit.
Thoughts?

What's much more likely to happen in the shorter term rather than a big breakthrough vaccine is that some effective treatments will be found as a result of the many trials. If these disrupt the virus and make it much less deadly/serious that will have a big impact in moving things forward and restoring confidence.
Re: One chairman's view
Pretty sure the consensus amongst chairmen is that football below the Premier League cannot survive unless it is playing in front of crowds.
Maybe televising lower levels is a solution, but does that not compromise what lower level football is about, it's affordable live football not a TV show.

It’s making the best of an awful situation if the leagues/FA insist football has to be played behind closed doors.lo36789 wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 9:18 pmPretty sure the consensus amongst chairmen is that football below the Premier League cannot survive unless it is playing in front of crowds.

Re: One chairman's view
Revenues from live streaming would not go anywhere near meeting the costs of staging ‘behind closed doors’ football at NLN/S level. It would be totally unsustainable and therefore a non-starter. It might work for one or two clubs with a good fan-base but you still need an opposition to play week in, week out.Darlofan97 wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 9:26 pmIt’s making the best of an awful situation if the leagues/FA insist football has to be played behind closed doors.lo36789 wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 9:18 pmPretty sure the consensus amongst chairmen is that football below the Premier League cannot survive unless it is playing in front of crowds.

How on earth did you come to that conclusion?Maurice_Peddelty wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 8:21 amRevenues from live streaming would not go anywhere near meeting the costs of staging ‘behind closed doors’ football at NLN/S level. We may well be in a situation over the next 3/4 months where leagues/FA force clubs to play behind closed doors. In the event of this, streaming matches would at least bring in some revenue. Or would you prefer we didn’t bring in any? I’m here to listen to alternatives to bring funding in to clubs to keep them afloat should matches have to be played behind closed doors?

Leagues or the FA are not going to force non league clubs to play matches behind closed doors.Darlofan97 wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 12:24 pmHow on earth did you come to that conclusion?Maurice_Peddelty wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 8:21 amRevenues from live streaming would not go anywhere near meeting the costs of staging ‘behind closed doors’ football at NLN/S level. Not sure where you get that idea from.
Games behind closed doors still have significant costs, from hire of venue, match officials fees, players wages, medical/ safety personnel etc. Let alone travel etc costs if playing away.
Most Clubs will not survive 2 months on that basis Competitions at least at non league level will not go ahead until spectators are allowed

Re: One chairman's view
Agree I just think the clubs below PL will suspend a restart until they can play in front of crowds again. Playing at all costs isn't necessarily the objective.
Estimates are it is 200 people to put on a behind closed doors PL game. 150-200 for a championship game and 100-150 for divisions below that.
That includes players / officials / non playing staff (including medical) / club officials.

Re: One chairman's view
Good to see DJ suggest in yesterday's interview the possibility of matches being streamed in the event of social distancing measures still being in place.
Hopefully the league allow it in the event capacity is reduced significantly.
