Luke Charman. From Newcastle U23’s. Sounds as though he has a good record in youth football!
A mystery but the sort of signing we should be after. Good stuff!

Re: New signing
Happy with this signing, young lad, over 6ft, lots of potential and clubs higher up were after him.Good signing by AA.in my opinion.H1987 wrote:Luke Charman. From Newcastle U23’s. Sounds as though he has a good record in youth football!

Not a bad goal!
Obviously will reserve judgement until he plays, but he looks like the type of signing we need up front. Decent record for newcastles youth teams, and will add that height we sometimes missed when O'Neill wasn't playing. If he can have a similar impact that Cal Roberts had for Blyth then ideal

New signing
His record at U23 level looks decent so it will be interesting to see how he adapts to NLN level, which as we know is a whole different beast.
Clearly AA was keen if he tried to bring him in last season too.
It was an area we needed to strengthen, getting in a taller, more athletic forward. We’ve got a few options in that forward line now, which will help us rotate and have the flexibility to change things when needed.

Re: New signing
Looking at his goals he seems to be an all rounder, can poach as well as cool finisher.
Still has time to develope under Alun.
Do we know how long we have signed him for...is it the usual 1 year with a 1 year option in our favour ?
Welcome to the club Luke

Looking forward to hearing what the Lad himself says about the move.Darlogramps wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 10:35 amHis record at U23 level looks decent so it will be interesting to see who he adapts to NLN level, which as we know is a whole different beast.

Re: New signing
Excellent news, another piece of the jigsaw falls into place.
Re: New signing
Happy with that. Everyone knows our key areas to strengthen are GK, CB and CF so to get one of those sorted in the first transfer is pleasing. Right kind of player too, at 6'1 bit of physical presence and an age where he could certainly be an asset in the future. Never seen him play but good pedigree coming from Newcastle and good that he knows Holmes well should help him settle into the squad.
Looking forward to seeing what he can do in a Darlo shirt. More of the same please AA, big, nasty, experienced CB next hopefully.

Re: New signing
Haha Nicky hunt fits the bill perfectly...
Re: New signing
These could be two excellent signings. One at the beginning of his career that hopefully we can develop into a better player and an old pro who can give us the benefit of his considerable experience. Hope fans will be patient with Charman as he may need some time to adapt to the physicality of NLN level. Things looking good for next season and a great reward for our efforts with BTB.
Re: New signing
Not sure if he’s big and nasty but AA was never going to sign someone like McNulty for instance so this is as close as we’ll get. Reads the game well, experienced head and good distribution. Ticks a lot of boxes for the way we play.
Re: New signing
True I think he fits the bill for what we want at CB more to the point. Think be will be a leader and an organiser.
Re: New signing
As Gary Bennett would say...definitely so
Re: New signing
Pleased with that one as well. Played for Bolton in the Allardyce years so cant be a pussy cat. As others have said sounds like a leader and experienced head. Played plenty of games in L2 last year as well in a promotion winning side so another one to be excited about.

Re: New signing
Very pleased with both signings and could be a pretty good piece of business... once the new season starts, here's hoping! On paper we are beginning to have the makings of a squad more than capable of challenging in the top 7 I just hope we can get going at some point in the future.
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"
Re: New signing
Hunt is a curious one, I wonder what persuaded him to step down into part-time football... maybe he's doing coaching qualifications or something. Either way, an experienced head at the back is no bad thing.
Re: New signing
I’ll give you a clue he is 37 in September. Wonder if he likely to be made captain?
Re: New signing
What, or who? Hatfield and Liddle I'm sure helped.H1987 wrote:Hunt is a curious one, I wonder what persuaded him to step down into part-time football... maybe he's doing coaching qualifications or something. Either way, an experienced head at the back is no bad thing.

We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.
Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Re: New signing
Yep this I suspect his body told him before anyone else needed to.
Intrigued about his travel arrangements though. Everything points to him being based in the North West.
Seems a fair bit of travel for training, when you would think Chorley who have just lost Andy Teague (CB and captain) would have been primed and it is the one piece which is out of sync with a 'normal' Armstrong signing.
Re: New signing
Playing for one of the bigger sides in NL football was probably a draw for him, the fact he contacted AA to sign shows he's keen!
Great signing on paper
Re: New signing
Think the lack of experienced centre backs based in the north east meant AA broadening his search, he can always pick up Hatfield on the way uplo36789 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 7:38 pmYep this I suspect his body told him before anyone else needed to.

Re: New signing
Definitely not complaining seems a quality signing and exactly what we needed.
Excited for the season now...4th September is still being talked about at step 3 and 4 as being the restart date but with the NLN playoff final scheduled for 1st August I am not sure if we will follow suit.

Re: New signing

Re: New signing
Not sure a 37 years old is really needed at this time , not saying he hasn't been a good player but I really don't like players at that age dropping down from the league for a pay day..
We don't really know for certain what we are getting so I will wait and see if he proves me wrong and has a great season.. I won't be getting excited like many are just like they did with Gary Martin etc..
