Maybe he had another decent right back and needed Atkinson in midfield. The good news for us is that we have two players in Atkinson and Hedley who can play in both positions. In addition we have Reid who can play in defence midfield or up front. All of which gives extra cover for places and that will be vital with a squad of 18.

Lambert
Maguire/Langstaff
Loan keeper from boro Safc or NUFC

Alun had Alex Nicholson (now at Gateshead), who is a very good right-back.Old Git wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 3:17 pmMaybe he had another decent right back and needed Atkinson in midfield. Either way, it’s good to have the option of either Atkinson or Hedley at right-back. Hedley performed well there last season, if Atkinson is even better then great.
Re: The Team 20/21 season
Makes sense. I think I was going by some previous chat where it was mentioned that Atkinson as a holding midfielder was Armstrong's biggest masterstroke at Blyth and basically was a catalyst for the form which got th into the playoffs.

Re: The Team 20/21 season
You are absolutely correct.
However, I think there has been a conscious decision at some point this summer to not pursue a right-back, go with what we have in that position and strengthen other areas of the squad.....
Atkinson played at right-back for Carlisle in League 2, Hedley performed admirably there last season. I’d have nee qualms about going with those two next season.

Noticed that Danny Graham has left Blackburn, he’s from the area and maybe wants a similar path to what Nicky Hunt’s doing. Alun did say in his interview that he’s looking for another striker, I know that I’m probably putting 2+2 together and getting 5 but you never know

If Danny Graham drops from the Championship to sign for us, I will run naked down Skinnergate.
Not going to happen.

Wow. As if the regular clamour to sign the local lad who played a good number of games for a team promoted from League One wasn't delusional enough, now this. The single most ludicrous suggestion I've read on here in a while which is quite the achievement. Well done.ReeceStyche’sManbun wrote: ↑Fri Jul 24, 2020 11:59 amNoticed that Danny Graham has left Blackburn, he’s from the area and maybe wants a similar path to what Nicky Hunt’s doing. Yeah looking back on it now having posted it, I think I’ve gotten this one catastrophically wrong post will be deleted so we can all just move on and pretend it never happens...
Re: The Team 20/21 season
Really excited about the squad AA is assembling for the coming season. Great to hear his enthusiasm in the interview with Ray. Hope we can get started on October 3rd as planned but it must be in doubt if COVID cases continue to rise.
Re: The Team 20/21 season
Whoever we're looking at as our goal keeper, it won't be one time loanee Jake Turner who joins Morcambe on loan for the season from Newcastle. Good luck to the lad, he looked good while here.
