I’m a big fan, as I’ve said before. Welcome back Omar. It’s a shame it’s a non-contract instead of a year. He may get picked off by another club if he plays well.

Could be offered something more permanent if he proves his fitness presumably. Pleased to see him back but don’t forget it was his decision to try his luck elsewhere so can hardly expect the fatted calf to be slaughtered on his return.

He’s a professional sportsman,of course he’s tried to play at the best level he can.The last part of your post is totally unnecessary.

He provides some valuable cover while Hatfield and Atkinson are out injured. It may be intended as no more than a short term arrangement for both parties until those two are fit - I can't imagine we can afford to commit to him long term from a financial point of view at the moment.

He knows the manager, most of the squad and the level so I can't really see any negatives.

Out of interest, does anyone know where else he's been in terms of trials over the summer?

No it is not. Lucky to be offered anything and I suspect if Hatfield and Atkinson were fit he would not have been given the opportunity. Hopefully it will work out for both parties but at the present time he can hardly expect a permanent contract until we have more idea of how things are going to pan out. Serious doubts as to whether the season will be completed.

There’ll be so many players available to clubs on these sorts of deals this season I’d imagine. Can’t see many clubs offering initial permanent deals to currently unattached players.

Awful post. Worse than the first.

Welcome back to the club, Omar. A really good addition for us and offers us something a bit different. His enthusiasm and work-rate impacts others positively no doubt.

It’s the truth and if you find it offensive that’s your problem.
With Hatfield Wheatley Reid Atkinson and Hedley on the payroll there is no way we could offer a deal to Omar if they were all fit. Why is that so hard for you to understand?

It's the suggestion that he is the one that is lucky.

It is obviously a good outcome for both parties but we are equally as lucky that he was available.

Obviously he not as good as his agent told him he was.

I can understand players wanting to play at a higher level but to give up the offer of a contract with us, for the option of being hawked around the country for trials seems to me to be bad advice under the pandemic conditions. It was obvious that clubs would be cutting back on squads & there would be a surplus of players to meet the demand.
No better shop window than performing week after week to get noticed & if you are good enough someone will come in for you.

We did offer a deal to Omar but he wanted to keep his options open. I must admit that I was a little surprised when he chose to take a gamble especially under these uncertain times. I think he's a good attacking midfield option and is more of a specialist than other players such as as Reid. Atkinson is more of a defensive midfielder, and I don't know about Hedley as he's a midfielder by trade but I haven't seen enough of him to see his preferred midfield role. Omar is a good alternative at the moment.

EDIT: Just read North East news where Hedley has done an interview and he sees himself as centre mid.

He took a risk, which I believe regardless of Covid he was always going to take. He is 26 (27 in March), and probably wanted to have at least one more shot at trying to make it professional after trials last summer. I admire his bravery but unfortunately for him it didn’t work out, fortunately for us he is back here.

I don’t blame him for taking that chance, nor should we use it as something against him. We don’t exactly pay the biggest wages (even at this level), nor did we give him as much game time as he probably deserved last season.

What? You mean Holness isn’t paying us to let him play? He should be grateful if we even let him on the subs bench after daring to attempt to make a career out of football over the summer.

I'm pleased he is back as he does provide a bit of strength in the midfield that we probably lack without Hatfield in the side. Yes, he was a carry over from the TW era and AA wants to put his stamp on the team now, however he gave him enough chances to prove himself and I suppose Alun does rate him enough to have him back. There is no doubt a bit of circumstantial timing with this transfer and yes there probably will be cynics thinking that the timing is just right for him to play a part in a cup run and get his name mentioned again should we get a decent run then he'll be off. Let's just support the lad for coming back and hopefully contributing to kick starting our season.
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

Who is using it against him Darlofan 97 ?
I certainly am not, I justed stated it appears he followed bad advice from his agent.
If he was good enough to go full time he probably would have been picked up before he was 26/27. Granted there are few that have but not too many.

He is lucky that we happen to have a batch of injuries, so he has a second opportunity to prove his ability by playing & putting himself in the shop window.
He is a good player at this level but it is for other managers to decide if he can step up to full time... as it stands they don't think he is good enough.
I wish the lad well & hopes he plays well enough to earn the opportunity for a contract.

He is not lucky.

When did it become luck to be asked to do a job when you are proven to be proficient at that job.

Hope he can stay fit as we need him to play alongside Hatfield and/or Wheatley.

Good player, amazed hes not been able to play higher up but thats our good fortune.

Great news! Get the Hatfield - Wheatley - Holness trio back in midfield again and that will do just fine for me.

To be fair, he may well not have been given the deal he's been given if Hatfield and Atkinson were not injured - so in that sense luck may well be involved in his having the opportunity to come back.

Of course, Armstrong may have asked him to come back regardless - he was offered a deal before looking elsewhere and we've not brought anyone else in to play in that position, so suggests he may have been here even with others still fit.
