Got me thinking, has anybody played for DFC and gone on to score for England, or vice versa, someone who has scored for England and later gone on to play for Darlo? I thought Julian Joachim might fit the bill but it turns out he never made a senior appearance for England.I came across up to nine clubs in the league who have never had any England goalscorers, past, present or future, in their ranks. Accrington Stanley, Crawley, Forest Green, Harrogate, Morecambe and Salford probably won’t surprise anyone, though if any of Salford’s owners ever fancy a kickabout they may drop off the list. AFC Wimbledon are in too, unless you count them as an extension of the original Wimbledon, in which case Dennis Wise’s goal against Turkey in 1991 rules them out. Similarly Newport County are in, unless you count the original Newport County and Harry Hampton’s goal against Scotland in 1913. Finally, Stevenage haven’t had any England goalscorers play for them, though Teddy Sheringham did briefly register as a player during an injury crisis when managing them.”

Always the go-to answer for these kind of things because his presence was such an oddity, but did Jimmy Case ever score for England?
Re: Has anyone played for DFC and scored for England?
(should have just googled it - he did not)
Re: Has anyone played for DFC and scored for England?
I thought maybe Gary Pallister but having checked, he didn't score for England.

Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

The closest you might get may be Liam Hatch I think he played and scored for England C team.
Re: Has anyone played for DFC and scored for England?
During wartime games the Darlo team was made up of players from all over the place who happened to be stationed nearby at the time (presumably Catterick). Looking at a few programmes for this period it actually listed the home club for the players, and some of them played for 'big' teams of the time - internationals among them, so its possible some of these may have scored for England, or maybe other of the home nations.
As this was all a bit artificial just to keep some football going as a morale booster then maybe it wouldn't count anyway.

Pallister should have done. Will never forget his free header miss from a corner in 1988 away to Hungary.

A Darlo manager who has scored for England ...
27 March 1991, England v Republic of Ireland, Wembley - Steve Staunton scored a tenth minute own goal

There seem to have been a lot of one-cap wonders like Nick Pickering down the years, but 'uddersfield legend, George 'Bomber' Brown scored 5 in 9 for England before eventually finishing his career as player-manager at Darlo.
He's the only one I've been able to find though.

Good call that. Have to confess I'd never heard of him (shame on me and all that), but what a strike rate.

Jimmy Case scored for England U23 in 1976.
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883
Re: Has anyone played for DFC and scored for England?
David Hodgson scored 3x for England under 21s in 7 appearances.
Obviously not a player but always a Darlo Legend.

You can add Noel Whelan to the list of scorers for the 21s as well, back in the days when he could still rely on his hamstrings.

Mike Bassett played for Darlo and went on to be England manager of course, just after winning the "Mr Clutch" cup with Norwich.

David Wheater has an England U21s goal on his record.
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"
Re: Has anyone played for DFC and scored for England?
Brian Little played for us. We had an injury crisis pre-season in 1990 and he registered as a player and played for us at least once. I remember the players shouting "Gaff, gaff" if they wanted the ball off him. He played for England but never scored.

Don't think he did. He once put himself on the bench for a tinpot cup match but never came on.

It was just the pre-season friendly, although I don't think it counts as a proper match. He came on for about 30 minutes.
