City of Liverpool at home I think? Then Telford or Coleshill at home.

That is initially a really decent draw, but Telford could be tough, that's assuming they beat Coleshill of course.

Ordinarily, you'd be happy we were at home...

It might be possible we will be allowed fans by then. Tiers are reviewed on the 16th I believe, game is the weekend of the 19th. I note the club have said it will be at Blackwell so maybe we'll allow a few hundred in.

Really think they are going to lift the tier before the Christmas free for all?

To be honest I hope they don't, however I have heard from various sources who are putting measures in place that we will be placed in Tier2 next week.

Could be watching Spenny at home on boxing day at BM.

Interesting. Often local leaks are quite reliable with this government as they are certainly into the art of leaking plans to gauge reaction.

At the Arena.

We can only get 550 in at BM under current restrictions.

First game is Wednesday 16th at home, let's not count our chickens just yet regards the Saturday!

I wonder how close to 'ready to go' the Arena is if Darlington is in Tier 2 from next Wednesday.
The club has already said that next Weds will be behind closed doors. Clearly we can't turn around availability for either venue the same day.
However, the 19th could be a possibility if we beat Liverpool.

Do you really think we would get more than 550 against either Telford or Coleshill if we win next Wednesday? I doubt it, so not sure we "need" the Arena for that gane. However if might be a good Test event to hold there?

I do think we'd get more than 550. It's our first match for nearly a year. And, as you say, a test event would be useful. Besides, I want to see Fat Josh's protest pitch invasion where he gets his moobs out.

We will leave the "estimate the crowd" thread until we beat City. I agree about Fat Josh I would pay just to go and see that!

I think we'd get a bigger crowd at the Arena than at Blackwell Meadows.

Apologies if it has been asked elsewhere, but will the games continue to be streamed live when fans are allowed back in? I'm in the "clinically extremely vulnerable" group, so won't be back watching football in person for a while.

Yes, we’re planning to continue live streaming once fans are allowed back in. It’s not totally clear how long it will be permitted for by the league but we’ll keep going for the rest of the season so long as we’re allowed to and then see what’s possible beyond that when we get there.

The club have said it's at Blackwell. They could change it, but it's their words, not mine. (I'd missed the behind closed doors bit, obviously they're not organisationally ready)

The R rate is lower than here in London in Darlington... I can't see why it won't be Tier 2. Tbh I think tying going to an appropriately distanced outside stadium to these rankings is absurd. Especially when retail is open.

London are expected to go into Tier 3 aren't they?

It might be but also they draw lines in places which are thought to benefit / impact the most people.

Closing retail to allow non league football to admit spectators isn't a vote winner.

Making comparisons on this v this is actually a bit pointless as the real calculation is the aggregate impact of what is open v the aggregate impact on livelihoods on what remains closed.

Oh I’m not claiming they should shut retail, but I do think it’s preposterous to allow non-essential retail but not allow distanced fans in a stadium. In terms of risk, going in an enclosed space and browsing / touching stuff in a fairy unregulated setting is clearly riskier than a stewarded, distanced outdoor area. I don’t see why one is banned and one is allowed in tier 3.

I’ve seen the scenes of shopping here in London and it’s madness to me. I recognise livelihoods are involved, but i can’t grasp why anyone wants to go and do it.

the first game has to be a test event with a severally reduced capacity. York play Spendy on Saturday and are only allowed 400 in with a view to allowing 1000 in if the game passes its test event.

Tiers are not assigned solely on transmission rates. I hear that pressure on local NHS is a very big factor. Our R-rate maybe lower than London but our hospitals have less spare capacity so we need to be more careful.
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

Regarding crowd capacity in grounds . Has anybody seen the video of the Arena pitch being completely redone . Looks perfect for football now ...

Because one (retail) supports the livelihoods of X number of people, and would impact the lives of Y number of people if unable to purchase stuff

Whereas the other (non league football) supports the livelihoods of <X number of people and would impact the lives of <Y number of people if unable to attend.

There is probably a factor of hundreds if not thousands applied to the difference between the two given 3.9million rely on UK retail whereas non-league football is predominantly staffed by volunteers. That is why.

I’m talking about the public health aspect.

I’m not calling for them to shut the shops, I’m saying it’s absurd to not have something that is objectively far safer open - as long as it is conducted in a sensible manner. There are plenty of people employed in this and related businesses too. I’m not just talking non-league football, I’m talking all stadiums in the country. Obviously don’t pack them, but open them in a safe, distanced manner, with restricted capacity.

Since when did economic concerns actually have any priority with the idiots in charge anyway? They’re currently causing a major international squabble about fishing at the expense of our service industry. One is a drop in the ocean compared to the other (pun absolutely intended).

Think for me I liken it to filling up a jar with sand. The limit of the jar is a desired R rate of 0.99 (ie. below 1). Arguably there is an admission they are happy for an R above 1 in tier 1, at 1 in tier 2 and below in tier 3.

There are various other jars of sand that you would decant into this one each with a different impact upon the R but also each with a corresponding economic and social value.

The task is to get as much economic and social value as you can in the jar. It is not a question of 'but this is safer than that' it is for its relative impact on the R rate the social / economic value is less.
