Club Closed?

by Scott Thornberry - 27th July 2009

club closed?

The drama continues, just as things seem to be getting sorted the it now appears administrators at the football club  have locked the doors and sent staff home.

The move appears to have happened after Colin Todd cancelled the pre season friendly against Middlesbrough, due to take place on Wednesday evening.  All money from the pre season matches have been going to the administrators to fund the club until Raj Singh finally takes over.  But after the cancellation a meeting was held and this morning they decided that there were no funds available to keep the club going, even though nigh on £100k has entered the clubs pockets from the Sunderland and Newcastle games.

Chairman elect Raj Singh is furious at what has happened and told the Evening Gazette "I am the buyer and the administrators need to satisfy me - not the other way round. The staff have organised pre-season games and have been preparing for the season.  The money for the pre-season games has been taken by the administrators, so I don't know why they have taken this action today. It is in the hands of my lawyers."

Dave Clark, from the administrators, told The Northern Echo  "The club has not been closed. You have caught me on the hop and I'm not prepared to comment further."

As yet no players or staff have been paid the money that they are owed so it is in the air where all of this money has gone.

my mate just went up to ticket office not long ago, its all gone off, the administrators have closed the club, they have just sacked all staff(after they have worked the past 5 months for nothing), and sent everyone home saying they are shutting the gates. basically the administrators are furious that they are losing the money from weds friendly and have told the staff that have come back that it wasnt them who brought them back so raj has to pay them, and raj has told admin they have to pay them so they have got rid of them, and the admin have got rid of the current staff coz no money to come in. all staff have been sent home and club is closed. just hope raj can resolve this matter asap!

doc_64 - 27th July 2009 11:54:58

darlomilo - 27th July 2009 11:56:10

TinShedDarloFan - 27th July 2009 12:02:14

Nothing on the official site, Noertn Echo website or the evening gazette site

isitouryear - 27th July 2009 12:05:14

because it was just happening when he went up there, peter in the ticket office was going home and he saw other staff leaving the ground, i dont understand either!

RH79 - 27th July 2009 12:07:47

just what is going on?

divas - 27th July 2009 12:10:30

Well the receptionist is still there - ive just called the club, so either this is BS or not everyone has gone.

PierremontQuaker03 - 27th July 2009 12:13:27

I think my dog needs a walk - I'm heading for the Arena!

StevieMardenboro - 27th July 2009 12:15:47

This sounds about right to me . .

Why is this club always such a shambles? It breaks my heart it really does.

isitouryear - 27th July 2009 12:22:23

just called my mate who works for the football in the community, he said all the staff had been sacked, the administrator was locking the doors and sent everyone home. looks like its up to raj now i would think to make sure the deal goes through, the admin gets paid and brings the staff back within 2 weeks!
The fact that someone picked the phone up at the club doesnt mean im wrong, someone might just still have been there AND I LOVE AND SUPPORT THE CLUB AND WOULDNT LIE ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS

Shieldsy - 27th July 2009 12:24:19

Can't be locking the doors if people are still working on the reception!?

isitouryear - 27th July 2009 12:30:18

believe me they are not, the receptinist was sacked months ago, it was likly picked up by someone still at stadium, they aint just going to down tools and leave

divas - 27th July 2009 12:32:33

so they are being locked in then eh!

mobi - 27th July 2009 12:39:07

I think someone should raise the bullshit flag.

The bullshit flag is no longer needed :( although it does sum up the administrators pretty well

isitouryear - 27th July 2009 12:46:12

funny how you all think your so clever but why would i lie. the lad who went to ticket office who told me also knows tommo the kit man and he got a phone call at training ground telling him the same and that they had been told everyone at stadium had been finished by the administrator but no-one could get hold of raj to find out what they should do (as in the football staff)

Quaker_London - 27th July 2009 12:46:56

I would call bullshit, but it seems all too likely.

Another day, another drama

StevieMardenboro - 27th July 2009 12:48:19

I doubt that it is complete bullshit - I've been told admin were furious that the club had cancelled the friendly and have had a meeting at the club today - but lets wait till they make a statement clearing things up before we go into panic mode.

Surely the administrators will recognise the importance of keeping the fans fully informed of the state of the club and its finances?

Shieldsy - 27th July 2009 12:51:29

It's not necessarily bullshit, but I've raised the flag early just in case.

Even though it would normally sound like something very unlikely to happen, with this admin team anything is possible.

cwisstoffhur - 27th July 2009 13:03:10

i know a lad who works on the bar and he aint been sacked (yet), he also mentioned summat to do with another company being set up, it could all be to do with this, this other company are the guys who are currently paying his wages, so weither everyone is moving over to this oter company i dont know. I guess its a matter of time before we find out

Edit: or it could be aload of crap

the new company will be the company (Darlington FC 2009) that is set up to take over once the old company is liquidated. interesting that wages are already being paid out of that company though.

the new company is not registered to the administrators but to a resedential address in Whickham, Newcastle, the same address that Stockport County's new company is registered to, so presumably some solicitor that deals with reforming football clubs

That said, the solicitor that was supposed to be forming the new company were Walker Morris of 12 King Street Leeds, so not quite sure whats going on there.

Depending on who owns the new company that the employees are apparently now receiving payment from would depend on whether the adminstrators could actually sack them.

They haven't said a great deal over the last 5 months have they?

Paul2525 - 27th July 2009 13:35:50

I may have got this completly wrong, but does it really matter that much that the admin have done this, players and management are not getting paid until the deal with singh goes through anyway. We have no game at home until the Leeds game which means that no football side business will be carried out until a week before then.
Once the new company is created and Singh is in charge then business will start again. Any money that is presently made by the club has gone straight to the administrators so what is the point of having the Boro game to pay them more money and depriving the club of much needed funds. (like i said i could be wrong).

isitouryear - 27th July 2009 13:37:08

well just drove past the stadium and not a car in sight

jqm18287 - 27th July 2009 13:38:55

It isn't crap. It is true. Staff have been sent home and have been told there isn't money to pay them. Seriously.

When staff that aren't apparently aren't getting paid anyway are getting told where to go yes I'd say this matters!

QuakerMitch - 27th July 2009 13:42:03

The Gazette have got hold if the story on their website now

divas - 27th July 2009 13:42:11

there needs to be an investigation done into the administrators by the FSA or whoever governs that sort of thing - despite at least £80k being made from the sunderland & newcastle friendlies there is no money to pay the staff? how can that be so - what has that money been spent on then?

Shieldsy - 27th July 2009 13:43:40

:wtf: :eh:

I'm lowering the bullshit flag unfortunately...

Quakerz - 27th July 2009 14:02:01

What about the players that have agreed to join? This throws everything up in the air doesn't it? What if we lose half of them in the next week? Do the administrators give a shite? They'll ruin everything.

TinShedDarloFan - 27th July 2009 14:03:45

They all agreed to join on the assumption that the club was now moving forward, this is a big step back and you couldnt blame any of the lads for getting out whilst they can

Darlo_Pete - 27th July 2009 14:06:09

Yep I've just tried to get some tickets for the forum and the place is completely shut down. The administrator should have put a sign up saying what was happening, the club at the moment is a complete joke because of the administrator.

bigbitchtits - 27th July 2009 14:21:06

Yeah, mate who works at the club just confirmed it like. Bad times.

this part from the gazette is quite relevant

its amazing that the story is all built on conjecture, then they end the story with a one liner thats more than likely the truth!

Hilly - 27th July 2009 15:24:11

Bear in mind that The Gazette has only just added that to their story.

They ran with the same thoughts that we all did, which is bad journalism to be honest, but that's not the issue at hand.

carver30 - 27th July 2009 15:35:43

With the Boro game cancelled the greedy admin bastards probably realise there is no more money coming hence this current move. I really do fuckin hate them they have dragged this out for months for one reason alone - GREED -
