davey quashes crisis rumours

Simon Davey's resignation sent inevatable shockwaves throughout Darlington FC and cued rumours of financial crisis, cut budgets and board room fueds. The fans, fearful for the welfare of the club, wanted to know exactly why he decided to tender his resignation.

And today Davey has moved to dispel any rumours suggesting trouble behind the scenes at Neasham Road, although his motives for leaving remain somewhat unclear.

Speaking to the Evening Gazette, Davey said: "While I was away in America I received a fantastic financial offer from a USA soccer company and after long consideration with my family, I decided to tender my resignation."

Rather confusingly, however, Davey has also stated that he will be mulling over a number of offers to step back into management:

"I’ve very recently had a number of clubs make enquiries through my agent. So I’ve got a lot to think about with regards to my future."

Whether or not the USA job offer is being used as a smokescreen to hide his intentions of joining another club remains to be seen. But amidst the confusion came a heartening line for anyone concerned with the club:

"There was never, ever, any disagreement between the Darlington chairman and me regarding players that I wanted to bring in. Raj Singh was very supportive of me there; in fact he was very supportive in everything I did. I think we both shared a number of common values. We certainly were not prepared to give in to the 11th-hour request of an agent to be paid a fee for a player.

“It was my decision to say ‘no’ on that - not Raj’s - and, to his credit, he backed me on it 100%.

"As to the Darlo fans, I’m sorry if some of them feel disappointed but, of course, I understand why they feel that way. I developed a pretty good relationship with them in my short time there - and I think that they bought in to what myself and Ryan were trying to do.

“If they continue to support Ryan and the lads we brought in - and the players Ryan will want to bring in himself - then I’ve no doubt that they will bounce out of that division in one season."

Quakers fans will keep an interested eye on Davey over the coming weeks but should now focus their attention and direct their support to Ryan Kidd as he gears up towards pre-season.

Davey's full interview is available on the Evening Gazette website.

It seems that Simon was not abducted by aliens after all http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/north-east ... -26693820/

So it was, as predicted, a job in the USA that turned his head. The statement pretty much backs up what Raj said, which means we can be fairly confident things behind the scenes at the club remain sturdy.

So the mystery is revealed!

Not sure I agree with him on a few points. Even if you have to formally submit a resignation in writing there's no harm in answering your phone and having a conversation with the club.

Also I'm confused by this...
Simon Davey wrote:While I was away in America I received a fantastic financial offer from a USA soccer company that made me think long and hard about my current situation.

After long consideration with my family, I decided to tender my resignation.

Finally, since my resignation, I’ve very recently had a number of clubs make enquiries through my agent. So I’ve got a lot to think about with regards to my future.
Which is it then? The job in America or a different club?

I still feel that this job offer is a smokescreen before being appointed a manager elsewhere. The article says it all when Davey states that he has alot to think about.

dickdarlington - 21st June 2010 12:09:33

Very interesting. But also somewhat him covering his own back. Yes, I can appreciate he acted formally to resign, but at the same time, he should have the respect and decency to pick up the phone when he is contacted. Also, he hasn't ruled out other jobs. So if we believe he is offered this American thing (and it is not just fabricated on his behalf) and he has acted on it enough to leave his job, then why is he considering other positions? If his actions are in the interest of his family. America it is. He sounds like a flip flopper, always thinking the grass is greener elsewhere.

I have kept my opinions to myself on this thus far, mainly because I didn't know what to believe.

I want to wish Ryan Kidd, the squad, and our board the best of luck, and here's hoping to a stable few seasons where they can really build the reputation and standing of the football club up again.

I can't go often at the moment due to financial restraints, but the actions of Mr Singh over this is just fuelling my desire to get back down the club as soon as possible. Even 4 months ago, it is something that I couldn't contemplate, even if i did have the money as it was just one ordeal after the other.

divas - 21st June 2010 12:27:39

all davey had to do was mention in his resignation offer that he'd received an offer that he couldnt turn down in the US - or better still answer the phone and there'd have been consider less negative vibes. of course it still does look sketchy, but at least we know the club isnt going down the pan like it could have been

the club have still ballsed up by giving a manager who was bound to be pretty sought after such a flimsy contract. lets hope they havent made another by giving a manager with no experience a 2yr deal.

knoxy5000 - 21st June 2010 12:29:13

Reading into that, sounds like he's off to manage another team

DL5 - 21st June 2010 12:31:41

I'm not impressed by this at all, though he's done nothing contractually wrong Davey doesn't score many credibility and morality points in my book. He's basically cracked on spending Raj's money and assembling a squad only to run off at the first sniff of a bigger pay packet. This left us with no option to appoint an untested novice as manager as the signings so far were partly down to him and he's no doubt happy with them.

What should have happened is Raj should have either tied him down to a 6 month contract or he should have gone before he started telling Raj where to spend the money and a new manager should have been allowed to bring his own players in.

I very much doubt this offer came out of the blue, there must have been some meetings lined up or Davey must have had some plans to look around whilst in the USA.

So Davey's either been devious in planning his out or just dropped everything when the cash got wafted under his nose. Yes you've got to look after your family that's true but it's certainly been at the detriment of our club.

divas - 21st June 2010 12:38:31

It all boils down to money - he couldnt apply for any other jobs for 6 months when he got the bullet from barnsley, so as soon as that was up he applied for the darlo job, now he's seen there's actually some decent interest in him from bigger clubs, and better financial offers he's off.

Having commited to taking the job he should have at least stayed for a season, im sure his stock wouldnt have reduced that rapidly - thats of course if he has any confidence in his own ability.

That said Singh should have shown a bit more faith in him - especially as he was spending money on his signings. If he'd been poor within the first 6 months then our season would have been over anyway, so i dont see the problem in tying him down to 12 months. Bet Davey was laughing his cock off with getting a nice wage to tide him over the close season until he could give 28 days notice and jump ship for more money.

It says it sall for me in the last part of that article, having to have a think about his future because of other offers, he starts by claiming there was an offer to good to turn down from a us company, then says he's had other offers from clubs via his agent

Quakerz - 21st June 2010 13:37:30

Yes he will have quit to take up the fantastic US offer, then once word got out of his resignation then clubs have contacted him too. Not hard to comprehend for anybody is it?

Darlo_H - 21st June 2010 14:17:34

Essentially when he was able to re-apply for jobs he applied for most of the ones going including ourselves, the US job and numerous others. We replied first with an offer and, fearing he may end up jobless, he takes the offer.

After a couple of months the job he wanted more reply to his application and invite him to join them, so he resigns from us and heads to the US.

darlo2001uk - 21st June 2010 15:04:12

I think that whole Gazette story boils down to the final paragraph.

More to come on this I think.

rj50 - 21st June 2010 18:52:31

I agree with you darlo2001uk

QuakerPete - 21st June 2010 19:27:16

It's more about what Davey doesn't say that what he does . . . honours degree in obfuscation

DarloOnTheUp - 21st June 2010 20:36:48

Davey is a lying b****** and I hope Hereford are relegated.

StevieMardenboro - 21st June 2010 23:26:10

I am absolutely fucking furious with Davey's treatment of Darlo at such a crucial time when we are trying to rebuild after 18 months of chaos. The way he has conducted himself makes me think we are better off without him. Good riddance.

cameron-darlo - 22nd June 2010 00:34:59

hes a c*** for how hes gone about all of this. spineless twat.

I think the job in the US was always a smokescreen.

1Superlidds - 22nd June 2010 08:51:59

possibly but if that was the case would he not have made Kidd aware? Lots of managers fall by the wayside without their sidekick. Cloughie needed Taylor who did ok as main man at Brighton when going solo.

aveda - 22nd June 2010 09:13:14

Name three others apart from Cloughie
