Player Fund Closed

player fund closed

On Wednesday evening the Darlington fans mulled over an idea to raise a bit of money to go towards paying for a pre match meal for the Darlington players this Saturday.

Due to the club being put in administration at the beginning of the week it became apparent that cash is sparce.  So much so The Northern Echo decided to pay for the club coach to Barrow.  This is where Stuart Armstrong  came up with the idea of the fans paying for the food and drink.  This website then set up the appeal and we hoped to raise £150, it is fair to say we have exceeded our expectations.

Donations from hundreds of fans from around the country has seen the fund finally finish with a grand total of £8000.  Some of the donations have come from ex players, David Stockdale and Dan Burn sent a tidy figure, whilst we note that a few staunch Hartlepool Supporters have also chipped in.  John Timmons turned up at my door this evening and wanted to pay for all of the refreshments for the team.  He handed over £300, offered more if needed and then left.  What an amazing world football is!

For everybody who has contributed and for those that have volounteered for future actions to help out with future events/appeals, we thank you.

Craig Liddle was overwhelmed by your generosity.  I will update you soon with an update of what has happened.  I will look at posting the comments left with a few of the donations, especially the ones from other teams.  We have Hartlepool, Liverpool, Sunderland, Crewe, to be honest too many to mention.

Any donations that we have received after the 4pm deadline will be held for any future appeals which will no doubt be on there way.

Well done everyone, proud as punch to be a Darlo fan right now.

Can we have a follow up article on their pre-match meal? I am particularly interested to learn if the Youth Team lads opt for a Happy Meal.

I think the fans of football should take a bow tonight....well done all who contributed.

Darlo Fonz - 6th January 2012 16:36:33

Fantastic effort everyone! And thanks to all outside of the club that have also donated!

olrad - 6th January 2012 16:39:00

scott as there doesn't seem to be a focal point for raised funds at present , are you prepared (as a site) to continue with the D.U.F.F. once monies are raised we can decide how best to utalise them come what may via voting on the site so the matter of"i never gave my money for this or that" will not be a problem. D.arlo U.ncovered F.ighting F.und , and excellent effort everybody

Unbelievable. Fantastic response from football fans everywhere. As Scott says, the initial idea was just so the lads who have not let us down didn't have the indignity of having to bring their own sandwiches on what could be our last day. I thought that the generous folk on here might get up towards the stretch goal of £150!

As well as all the generous donations, we have to thank Scott for moving fast to set up the PayPal idea and doing all the great work, to Mikkyx for the site work on the totalizer etc, and to MKDarlo, whose stirring piece has driven so much traffic on to the site in the last few days. You lads are all fantastic ambassadors for the club.

DTID.

Sledge FGR - 6th January 2012 16:43:45

Excellent response. Has anyone tried to get it publicised on e.g. SSN?

That wasn't too hard.

Totally amazed at how much has been raised. Like GQ I'm proud to be a Darlo fan after that.

It gives a lot of hope as to what could be achieved in regards to raising funds for a new club or the old one.

Humbling!

The biggest thanks to everyone, especially to those from other clubs.

My faith in human nature is rapidly being restored!

Well done EVERYONE!!!!!!!

mikkyx - 6th January 2012 16:57:11

We made it into The Fiver (daily Guardian newsletter) today but they printed my letter verbatim so it says we only managed £3.5k - to have doubled it since I wrote that is absolutely incredible.

Football supporters are an incredible breed - millions of them across the world yet we are one small family. Football may have sold its sole but the true spirit of football lives on in the fans

Further to that, I'm proud to be a FOOTBALL fan!! Yes the bulk of the money has probably come from Darlo fans and ex players but a considerable amount will have come from fans of other clubs and this goes to show what the football community, despite their rivalries, are capable of doing. Well done to everyone!!

Bogratsteve - 6th January 2012 16:59:56

Outstanding effort from all the true fans @ Darlo and across the world nevermind the UK

Big thanks to Admin for all they have done

Really looking forward to the match now

Eight grand?!

Awesome.

P.S. It's a good job we didn't have a virtual Blue Peter-style totaliser with the target set at 150 quid, otherwise the site might've gone into meltdown by now!

AndyPark - 7th January 2012 11:18:10

Fantastic effort from everyone.
