staunton set to be gaffer

Former Republic Of Ireland manager Steve Staunton is set to be announced as Darlington's new gaffer today.    Nothing yet has been confirmed but somebody walking their dog last night sent me a text telling me.  No seriously, Uncovered HQ received a text just after 8pm on Sunday night from an unknown source* stating Staunton would be unveiled on Monday.  Then a couple of hours later Sky Sports run a story stating the same so I am guessing this info is correct,

He became manager of Ireland back in 2006 after having a brief spell as Assistant Manager at Walsall.  His reign did not last long after failing to qualify for Euro 2008 and in July 2007 he was replaced with Geovanni Trappatoni.

More recently Staunton teamed up with Gary McAllister at Leeds United, this was in February 2008.  But again the spell was brief as McAllister was sacked in December of the same year Staunton left also.

Since then he has been restricted to scouting work but was quick to put himself forward for Darlo, Good luck to him.
