You get no points for size of fan base or ground.
No, but you do get points for the size of your chairman's wallet.

Re: George smith departs

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Griffiths and Hedley as fullbacks with Hope and another youngster as back up. Probably wiser using Smiths wage elsewhere in the team and get a young replacement for cover. That would be a bit of a gamble though in my opinion. We’ve got an expanded 46-game league seaso...

Re: Retained list

To be honest I think that Mondal and Rivers are lucky that they're already contracted for next season otherwise I'd fancy that they'd have been released. A bit sad to see Smith, Ellis and Cassidy go. It may be a case that we would have kept Ellis but he had the chance to go into management, so all t...

Who knows. If you can afford full time I think they would get a better return for their money if they just took a cherry picker to Altrincham, Curzon Ashton, Buxton and Matlock's squads. Get their best part-time players would get them through the next two divisions quick as anything. They do say th...

Re: Signings

Thing with Cassidy is, it shouldn’t come as a great surprise he’s not a goalscorer. He never has been so we weren’t signing him for his goalscoring record. We signed him because we needed more of a presence up front. In the previous two seasons, we were crying out for that type of forward, a physic...

Re: Signings

Pretty much in agreement with Lallacab on who we retain. Basically we lose Beeden, B Taylor, Hope, Storey, Wheatley, Mondal, Rivers, Cassidy, and make decisions on whether we're going to try and sign the loanees. I'd go for Thompson, Rose and possibly O'neill if any of them are available to sign per...

Re: New stadium funding

As an aside, I've just thought - say we did somehow get promoted next season, which is the earliest chance - that's at least 1 year and 4 months before we'd be kicking off in the National league, so perhaps by that time we might have firm plans in place for the new ground or may even be at the stage...

Re: New stadium funding

Agreed, five years seems a more realistic timeframe really. If it's sooner than that, I'd be amazed. It does raise some questions over what happens if we manage to get promoted in the interim, but that'd be a problem i'd be delighted for us to have to deal with! Agree on 5 years, it's not going to ...

Re: The penalty that wasn't

In defence of the referee I thought he had a decent game. The penalty is a really tight call, but he took his time, consulted the assistant and made his decision. The line is part of the box so I think he may have just got it right. Yes I thought he had a much improved match compared to the Glouces...

Lets not forget that Radged donated 10k to our first ever BTB as well. He never asked for it back when we didn't want him to come back to the club, so that money was given in good faith. It's over a decade since he was our chairman and he did what he did. We're now fan owned, stable, and have had 3 ...

And with 4G pitches the goalposts aren't in the ground - they are those silly goalposts on wheels. I saw a clip on twitter the other day from a National league match where a player collided with the post and moved the goal about 3 feet across from where it was supposed to be stood. We can't be havin...

He was very scathing about the critics who slagged him off for meeting with Nadine Dorries, saying he would meet with The Monster Raving Loony Party if it furthered the interests of Darlington FC. Exactly. It was embarrassing and maddening reading the comments aimed towards the club and Nadine Dorr...

We're going to fall back into the problems of previous seasons. Pretty tippy-tappy football in a slow, wide arc around the opponents box, but no actual penetrations and no real threat.
How silly does this comment look when we were top scorers in the league a week or two ago?

Hmmm - wonder who you’re referring to. Your recall isn’t that great either I’m afraid. I actually agreed with you on the first three, if you look back over the thread. The two I questioned were Campbell and Maguire. Pretty much everyone said Campbell was the biggest loss out of those (albeit he has...

I was very much in agreement with Ghost of1883 at the time over the players that left us in the summer and nothing since has changed my mind. I disagree about Campbell getting in to current first team. Who would he replace? Not as good out wide as Rivers or de Santos and certainly not as good as Ch...

A certain sense of satisfaction is what I'm feeling right now. I remember in the summer talking about the players that had left - at the time I genuinely felt the following and articulated it in a post... Reid - Evostik player Watson - see Reid Liddle - over rated, good going forward but actually no...

Part of me wonders if this is how he has ended up playing at this level again because on ability alone he should be in the football league, but I wonder if league referees are a bit savvier to this behaviour. It's much simpler than that. He just doesn't have the ability to play in the football leag...

Gutted.

Even worse from the team's perspective is that the whole squad has to self isolate for 10 days - so no training as well as missing our first two matches. After already missing a chunk of pre-season and now this, we'll be miles behind in sharpness by the time we kick a ball competitively.

We will miss Campbell this season. He was very good for us in terms of both scoring and creating chances, could play a lot of minutes and was relatively versatile. Maguire was a funny one. I would use the word bitter. I think a few of our fans can’t handle a player leaving for another club, which is what we’re seeing here. Whilst I agree that some people can be petty or bitter, or as you like to phrase it "well I never fancied her anyway", it is not always the case that people are bi...
