Re: NLN playoffs
Exactly this. Lets hope im right in thinking gateshead is more of a project for mike and hes not in it for the money. He joined gateshead as a player and got paid peanuts and stuck by them when they nearly went under and kept the young players going. He took the managers job when no one else wanted...

Re: NLN playoffs
The playoffs are brilliant. They absolutely make the season more interesting at the end and the games themselves are so good to be involved in. I was gutted we lost in 99/00 but I am still glad we had those semi-finals against Hartlepool were able to go to Wembley. Going to those games are the exper...

Re: BTB - It's back
I think at around this time last year, we were at £71k and we reached £135k, so it's going to take a massive effort to reach the £125k target. Hopefully the usual rush at the end will get us over the line. So in the same time frame last year we gained £64k and this year we are targeting another £64...

Re: Hybrid next season
Fundamentally we are a football club first, we have to excite, entertain, compete and engage. People are fickle, people have other demands on their time and money and some fans won't understand how the club is set up, or even care. "Within our financial means" like any business we must deliver our ...

Re: Hybrid next season
I see what Pete means. It's not "entitlement" it's just reality. And Lo, not all fans are owners, they may know about the ownership structure and agree to it's principles, they lob a bit extra into the 50/50 draw and suchlike but that doesn't make them owners and it doesn't make their ongoing suppo...

Re: Hybrid next season
I think I've confused figures with community shares which was lower and a thread about changes in contributions from last season. You are right it was 707 in terms of pledges...the hundred or so was those that decreased their contribution y/y. Currently showing at 233 on BtB we still have a long way...

Re: Hybrid next season
I'm, not sure that the majority of our fans will accept just drifting along in the Conference North. Take it that is based simply on entitlement? The fans are the owners at the end of the day - so it is up to that majority to fund what they deem acceptable. In reality less than 200 fans actually bo...

Re: Hybrid next season
We do need to a hybrid system sometime soon, whether now is the right time or not, is up too debate. But going forward we do need to move to a hybrid system, as a stepping stone to becoming full-time. If we remain part-time then we are always going to struggle to struggle to be competitive. Is that...

Re: Hybrid next season
DJ talks about this in his boost the budget interview. It doesn't sound hybrid to me - they're adding in a third training session, but it will only be used when needed and the players' contracts have been drawn so they only get paid for the extra training when it's used. That makes some sense. Sugg...

Re: Retained list
Have Beck back in a heartbeat, don’t know the other players, any attacking midfielders amongst them? I don't know many of the others. Fallowfield is a right back, Page is a left back and Leesley is a left midfielder. They released a keeper as well. Be interesting to see who York, Gateshead, Guisele...

Re: Retained list
Not the only one. Lewis Page (LB), Joe Leesley (LW) and Ryan Fallowfield (RB)
I think Page might hail from down south based on his accent.
Could be potential options depending on their motivations to stay in full time football.

Re: Retained list
There is something missing. It's too solid almost.
Need the player who will drive into the attacking third with the ball more than anything.
It's a division below, and his travel wouldn't add up, but Bohan Dixon at Warrington Town is the type of player I'd be looking for.

Fylde for me they bring fans, it's not a good place to visit and I think they will be well financed for a while yet - I'm not convinced there is any correlation with their crowds.

Re: Raj Singh
To me Houchen was a much worse chairman and Scott & Sizer were equally just as bad all about the money not the club. As I remember Scott and Sizer were just money lenders - all they wanted was their money back and I can't see anything wrong with that. They ended up owning the Arena by default then ...

Re: Jacob Hazel
Why are we handing out 2 year contracts all of a sudden? So much can happen in that time. There have been moans about only giving one years and now this I would suspect it may be indicative of the fee paid, given Hazel's age I can't see that resale is top priority, presents better value for money o...

Re: Robbie Dale
How are Macclesfield getting gates above 4,000?! But yes, on those gates plus income from the 3G pitch it should be affordable - though still a complete waste of money. They'd be better off saving that extra income for the next couple of seasons then they'd have a hell of a financial cushion going ...

Re: Robbie Dale
If you can afford it, why not? Why mess about? There was a season we got knocked out in the playoffs (Ramsbottom) and this held us up by a year but wouldn’t have happened if we’d been sitting comfortably at the top of the league. Yeh we spent more than anyone else in the division that season and it...

Re: Robbie Dale
Who knows. If you can afford full time I think they would get a better return for their money if they just took a cherry picker to Altrincham, Curzon Ashton, Buxton and Matlock's squads. Get their best part-time players would get them through the next two divisions quick as anything. They do say the...

Re: BTB - It's back
This has slowed up some bit since it's relaunch and I think 120k is going to be tough to hit in these harder times. This happens every year in fact it happens anytime we do fundraising for anything. Would have to go back over previous versions for the detail but a surge / trickle / surge is the tri...

Doubt he'd be going full time now. You would have thought a Morpeth or similar would be more likely. In the latest news around a club with money to burn. Macclesfield have just announced they are going full time next season...they are step 4 for anyone interested. They will be competing against club...

Re: If and when Chelsea get sold..
No we are not. We were categorised as elite football not that long ago! If it goes by the covid guidance as well the 'guidance for a return to grassroots football' was squarely aimed at the amateur game. Effectively anything part of the National League System had it's own guidance. I didn't realise ...

Re: Good news today
They have improved that now though. There's a decent stand opposite the small main stand. I don't know if they need to do more to meet the requirements at this level, but it's reasonably tidy looking right now. They would meet minimum for playoffs at our with 500 and something seats. It's still ove...

I liked Hughes as a person and he clearly has some footballing talent, but he was initially signed as a midfielder and was just quite obviously incapable of playing the position due to his weight. While there's obviously personal responsibility to consider, the management are responsible for the pl...

Re: Farsley match thread
It makes me wonder too! Did Armstrong and his players really believe? As we've seen, no big end of season effort filtered through and yesterday it seemed to me that the team who wanted it more (Farsley) picked up more of their fair share of 50/50 balls,. Remember which game it was though. Alfreton ...

Still, an enviable problem to have & hope DFC can learn from their example. Which bits should we learn from? Getting hold of a council owned...
