Re: Retained list

Totally agree Beck has nothing to prove given his history Football doesn't work like that IMO. It's what he can do now that matters, I mean Gabbiadini has nothing to prove given his history but we wouldn't want to sign him up. Personally I'm not sure about Beck, I'm not sure he was a big hit at York.

- Thommo v Kidderminster (18/19 season) - plucked out of the air and lobbed the keeper.
  This was brilliant. Hughes crosses it up and across, Thommo executes a lob par excellence. If this had been on MOTD Lineker and pundits would have been drooling.

Re: Best Darlo goals you’ve seen live

Gabbiadini, for the 2nd part of his first season and the 1st part of his second season, he was amazing  I remember a goal he scored away at P'boro. He chested down a long range diagonal pass, then with a defender right behind him and seemingly having no room, he pivoted round and shot - pla...

Re: Best Darlo goals you’ve seen live

This topic has been done before and once again it reminded me of a brilliant, rather unusual goal from about 98/99. To quote myself from a previous thread.... .... "Lee Ellison (2nd time round) No one EVER mentions this goal and it sometimes feels to me that I am the only one who witnessed it - but ...

I think you’re right Oldgit. Things do change in football but once we get out of our present lull, word will get round and crowds will pick up.

Re: Anonymous letter in the Echo.

By the time we left the cricket club were doing everything they could to obstruct the football club. Even going to the lengths of locking the gates the evening a concert had been arranged in the East stand. I'm pretty sure this was Sean Lock - I had my eye on this gig but didn't go. I seem to remem...

Re: Transfer Rumours???

Bit of a surprise regarding Sousa as he played 33 games for Grimsby last season and started in the playoff semifinal and final. Think it likely he will be snapped up by a National League team, but if not would be very welcome back at Blackwell Meadows. Sousa must be gutted that Grimsby let him go. ...

I could make one up.... Think it might have to come to that It's a little known fact that Rylan Clark (of TV fame) was on the books as a pro footballer with Colchester Utd as an apprentice. He is a talented midfield player and now at the age of 33 wishes to have one last chance of playing football ...

Anonymous letter in the Echo.

Has anyone else spotted this? It seems a bit of a pointless anti Darlo rant tbh, written in short paragraphs that when added together make little sense - but the writer asks a few questions which I will give my personal answers to (below the line in capitals) ******************************* here is ...

Gareth Bale may be looking for a new club on a short term basis to maintain his fitness for the World Cup. Perhaps we could offer him a pay as you play deal 🤣

I think Drewe played for free. If so we need to give him the benefit of the doubt - also he was playing in a poor team, which doesn't make things any easier.

Re: Darlo’s worst XI

Spyman - Garry Williamson, that's him. He changed his name for some reason then played on. He was okay really, possibly a bit young and raw for what was expected or hoped of him via G.R's "new and improved Darlo" G.R's words not mine. Thrown in at the deep end. if you like. FROM WIKI. Kirk Jackson... enough said !!! I'd forgotten about Kirk. 21 games and one goal. I was thinking of Paul Beavers too. If I remember right he only scored one goal for Darlo, it was in front of The Tinshed and deflected in off of his backside.

Important goal though.

I don't know Lo, this is Darlington don't forget, we're not talking big city/big club here. I think that most people driving in from the towns and villages that lie North, South, East, and West of Darlo don't want to be messing on with park and rides and suchlike - they just want to be able to watc...

I'm sure lo I'm not sure I understand some of your logic. You refer to Sandhills as an interchange station. I'm not sure about Lo's reasoning - it occurs to me that there are two types of football stadium, In town and out of town and each have their own pros and cons regarding fans sloshing around the town centre, but you can't have it both ways. When we were at Feethams I often used to pop into Binns, Ro...

Re: New stadium funding

To me the modern way of thinking is to get cars NOT to enter into towns and cities where possible, as it clogs up the roads and adds to pollution. Yes, provide good links to those who live in the vicinity but don't force people in by stealth just so they have to park up in town then get a bus out o...

Re: New stadium funding

I think Spyman makes an important point. Given we want council support on this, you would have to think we need to demonstrate return on investment for them. People driving to the ground then driving home again afterwards only benefits the football club. If we are going to try and sell that we are ...
