I remember during the infamous Fans Forum in July 2017 that MG said you need a budget of 400k to compete at the top full time. This could probably be upped to around 500k at least now. Short of raising 300k on BTB what are the options for getting this sort of budget?

£400k? I am not sure that is right.

I'd be surprised if clubs can compete full time at top in NL on less than £750k, and probably a figure north of £1m is more likely to be needed

It’s all a bit of a fallacy, Nuneaton were “full time” on probably less than our budget at one stage but had a team full of kids. Spennymoor probably have one of the best “part-time” budget. It means little tbh.

We could go full time next season with the budget we have but the senior pros who have another job would all leave and we’d be left trying to find lads who could afford to live on £400 a week over 39 weeks of the season.

Most of the lads Tommy signed didn’t have second jobs….

More likely the lads that Alun is after have never played at NLN level and are nervous about dropping down regardless of whether we were “full” or part time.

MG was talking about NLN, not NL as some are inferring.
And I never knew that most of Tommy's signings didn't have another job. That's interesting.

I think there may be one team worse than us this season.
Hereford FC lost 8-1 at home to Cheltenham.

Yes, in order to go full-time (and do it effectively) we would probably need to double our revenue. We need to be realistic as that is far from easy.

Gateshead will probably go part-time next season (if they do not go up). This will make our recruitment a little easier, IMO. As I do think a number of players choose Gateshead over Darlington on the sole basis of part-time/full-time rather than anything else (wages, location, aspirations etc).

Alun has cut a little bit of a frustrated figure recently, in regards to recruitment and the full-time/part-time issue. In my honest opinion, we should still be able to recruit two centre-halves and a goalkeeper that can do well at this level without being full-time with the budget which we have. Over the last two seasons, we have been too hasty with the recruitment of a goalkeeper and ended up plugging this issue with a flurry of loans (as an example).

Alun will be frustrated in general. He hasn't finished a season yet, most of his plans have been thwarted by events out of his control.

A bit like all of us I suppose.

True but the last few weeks (i.e. pre-season) apply to all Clubs in our League?

I’m sure I’ve heard in the past to be competing effectively in NL a playing budget of £600k plus is required.

What's Altrincham's budget like? They had a good go last year.

Sure in their NLN season was about £700kish

https://www.altrinchamfc.com/news/alty- ... ine-fettle

Actually just read into it would have been a lot less I guess revenue of £684k and a profit of £60k...is £624k.

That was their 18/19 season though...it's two years since then and they are in another division up.

I think Man U hire their ground so there would be some income from that.
