Give Them Wings. Film.
I see on the official site that this film was shown at The Vue in Darlington on Saturday 16th.
Did anyone see it? If so, how was it?

The article on the Club site says the Film "is released on all major platforms in the UK on 1st August." Not sure what this means, so where can we view it Amazon Prime, Netflix?

I dunno, it’s not streaming now.
I’d like to see the film - the book is a good read and I’ve bumped into Flipper a few times over the years

Where and when can we see this film?

'Available to buy/rent on Digital HD from 1st August', so at a guess I would say it would be available to purchase through things like Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Sky Store, etc

Re: Give Them Wings. Film.
Poetic licence was hilarious
I particularly lmao at the there's the stadium moment
clearly the Riverside at Boro with the Tees beside then landing in Blackwell Meadows.
Radio commentary of Gary Coatworths last minute winner 300 miles away at Welling and a character says I'm off to the game now I ain't missing this .. I think he may have been late.
Darlo 30 years ago playing in 2 years agos Puma kit.
All the darlo houses with pvc windows 30 years ago
I hope it was meant to be a comedy

UPVC windows actually started being popular in the 80s so not totally unreasonable to see some in the film, unless you expect a film done with a limited budget to replace all the windows in view?
Its possible to pick faults even in the most expensive or most popular films made.
Sometimes its best to keep your thoughts to yourself.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the budget was 100k so I’m not sure what you’re expecting. Maybe recreate Wellings football ground from 30 years ago? Maybe rebuild Feethams? Also the vast majority watching this film won’t know nor give a toss about Darlington wearing ‘the wrong kits’. It has won 2 independent film awards and has received excellent reviews.
This film isn’t a story about Darlington FC. It’s a story about a man overcoming his challenges who happens to be a massive Darlington fan. I thought it was excellent. Great performances all round but I must say considering she’s from London Katie Sheridan did a good attempt at a Darlington accent, it’s a particularly hard one to replicate.
By the way, does anyone know if the pub Paul and Jane were in was the Foresters at Coatham Mundeville? It looked very familiar!

Sniping is so easy when funding is limited. Skyfall was £150 million plus. Now that's a budget.

Re: Give Them Wings. Film.
"Gritty" is an apt description earlier in this thread (Heaton Out). I just had to watch it seeing I've been following the Quakers since 1965 and they used my old Dolomite car in the filming at Catterick. There's a reference in one scene to a seven nil home defeat in 1973 and I wondered if that was against Mansfield? We were going through a desperately bad patch and they did slaughter us 7-0 at Feethams round about then; unfortunately we were so bad I never got it out of my head.

Re: Give Them Wings. Film.
That has to be the game when Phil Owers played in goal wasn't it? Did he not concede 7 in two consecutive matches or have I got that second stat totally wrong? Good goalkeeper I liked him.banktopp wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 6:32 pmTry Southport.Feethams 1965 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 6:20 pm"Gritty" is an apt description earlier in this thread (Heaton Out). Afraid you are correct. Previous game just before xmas, Bradford City beat us 7-0.bga wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 8:57 pmThat has to be the game when Phil Owers played in goal wasn't it? Re: Give Them Wings. Film.
Thankfully that's just before my Darlington watching started. If he was a "good goalkeeper" the team must have been terrible!!
Re: Give Them Wings. Film.
Did we not also get done 5 at Chester around the same time as well?banktopp wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 7:28 amAfraid you are correct. Yes I remember the Southport game. Fortunately it was a foggy day and some of the game was obscured in the mist. We kept hoping the fog would get worse and the ref might abandon the game.don'tbuythesun wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 8:04 amThankfully that's just before my Darlington watching started. Phil Owers was just a young lad of 17 or 18, a promising young keeper from Shildon who was making his debut. I think we had been tanked 7-0 the previous game at Bradford and I assume that the first choice keeper had been dropped. I think that was a player called Ernie Adams.
Re: Give Them Wings. Film.
It was Adam that was goalkeeper, he was very poor in a poor team, young owers turned into a far better keeper, it was the same time as the frost programme on Darlo
