Sweet Caroline
Sweet Caroline
Is this going to become a bit of an anthem for us? Seems to be getting plenty of air time recently at home games.Speaking as an old git much prefer it to some of the more modern stuff that is played over the tannoy. Think we could do a a lot worse than to adopt it as our song to come out to at the start of the game as plenty of people were singing along when it was played during our extended halftime break yesterday. Anyone agree or want to offer alternative suggestions?

Please no.
This song is big at York City games - do we really want to emulate them?

Is there a particular link/connection/relevance between the song and DFC?theoriginalfatcat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 8:33 pmPlease no.

Re: Sweet Caroline
Not to my knowledge, and I've been going since about 1996. However at York there is, it's heard a lot - they also play it at the end of the game if they win and all the Yorkshire people sing along - UGH.biccynana wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 8:46 pmIs there a particular link/connection/relevance between the song and DFC?theoriginalfatcat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 8:33 pmPlease no.

Re: Sweet Caroline
What's the song's connection with YCFC? It's connected because they sing it, but why did they start with it in the first place?theoriginalfatcat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 9:02 pmNot to my knowledge, and I've been going since about 1996. Re: Sweet Caroline
I think it was actually originally used by Lincoln city during the success that they were having under the Cowley brothers and York city have probably just decided to copy. Not sure but I think they were both in the national League at the same time.
Re: Sweet Caroline
Seems popular with the crowd, a lot singing it in stands, think more teams than York use it. Same as Old G I am not sure I like some of the songs played on match days but then I am old too. If not that song then what song would be good that old and young can sing along to rather than just listen to?
Re: Sweet Caroline
Surely it is when teams play Diamond formation?

Re: Sweet Caroline
Players were singing it on the way back from Walsall on the bus, I presume that's how it ended up being played on Saturday. I don't mind it and does get people singing quite often, not sure I would have on when the players come out at the start though.Old Git wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 8:04 pmIs this going to become a bit of an anthem for us? Re: Sweet Caroline
It's a staple feelgood song now. It was Peter Kay who popularised it at his shows recently and it's spread like that.

Re: Sweet Caroline
I'd rather have Raj Singh back, get relegated and move back to the The Arena than have Sweet Caroline (or anything by N**l D**m*nd...) become any kind of 'anthem'...

Re: Sweet Caroline
e4sby - throw it all in.
Give Diamond an inch via regular airings of Sweet Caroline and next minute Scott will be playing side one of 'The Jazz Singer' at half time...

Re: Sweet Caroline
Peter Kay has NOT toured recently! I am still miffed at him after spending 2 hours on the internet getting tickets for his last tour couple of years ago that he then cancelled.

Re: Sweet Caroline
Too right - there is no shortage of classic 70's music to choose from without Sweet Caroline, which is better suited to the Morrisons Tannoy.beatroute66 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 1:17 pme4sby - throw it all in.

Re: Sweet Caroline
Scott I think you should change your username to 'It looks like we're ready to go'.
Personally I don't like the song, I'm with b66 on this one.

Re: Sweet Caroline
If it must be a Neil Diamond song then surely it can only be I'm A Believer, although Two-Bit Manchild might have suited some previous playersuncovered wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 5:19 pmThe jazz singer you say? Will take a lookbeatroute66 wrote:e4sby - throw it all in.

Re: Sweet Caroline
Looking back to when we were at the Arena, the anthem must have been John Cage's 4 minutes 33 seconds. The silence from the empty stand was deafening.

Ha ha, brilliant! You would think that with all the wind up merchants at the rugby club, the clock would be spot on. If the thing was stopped, it would be right once every 12 hours.
Re: Sweet Caroline
What about " I am a believer" by the monkeys, suits our current situation and people can join in the singing
A fair few on here saying they don't like sweet caroline but not saying what song we could agree on to sing along to.

Re: Sweet Caroline
Remember going to Hillsborough in 1970s to watch us playing Sheffield Wednesday when they were really struggling and they were playing We Shall Overcome.

Re: Sweet Caroline
It's not a "singalong" song but "We're Gonna win" by Bryan Adams is the song I most associate with Darlo. It was played pre match a lot at Feethams, along with "Dancing In The Moonlight" Toploader....... (not Thin Lizzy)

Re: Sweet Caroline
Nothing wrong with the legendary Thin Lizzy! And I watched Nuneaton Borough in the 60's who came out to the Last Waltz by Englebert.....
Re: Sweet Caroline
Coldplay song viva la Vida is uplifting translates from Spanish has live the life and we certainly do that supporting darlo.
Re: Sweet Caroline
How about ‘One Way’ by The Levellers. “Theres only one way of life...and that’s Darlo that’s Darlo that’s Darlo !
Re: Sweet Caroline
I think a local connection would be apt so I suggest Fool if You Think it's Over sung by Chris Rea. It goes to the heart of the supporters efforts. Destiny's Child I'm.a Survivor might do if it could be confirmed that there's a local connection. I remember a mad version of Nellie the Elephant being sung in the 80's so we've got form
Re: Sweet Caroline
"I'm Henry VIII" by Herman's Hermits, sung regularly in late 60's. What was that all about ?Wiseacre wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2019 5:14 pmI think a local connection would be apt so I suggest Fool if You Think it's Over sung by Chris Rea.
