New keeper on loan

Post by Darlogramps » Fri Oct 23, 2020 1:32 pm

Melvin Minter on loan for a month from Harrogate Town.

No suggestion Saltmer is injured. Armstrong said he panicked about the lack of cover there.

I guess if Saltmer was to trip over the cat and twist his ankle on Saturday morning before an important FA Cup-tie then Armstrong could have looked very silly not have anticipated that situation.

Have expressed doubts about relying solely on a young inexperienced keeper although I think Saltmer has done well so far but it makes sense to have some cover on the bench. It always seems an unnecessary risk to me especially for a cup game which is as important as this one.

Tbh it had passed me by that there has been no keeper on the bench so far this season.

A bug bear of mine, there should always be a keeper on the bench!
Sensible move by Alun.........eventually!

New keeper on loan

By the sounds of it, he looked at whether any of the youth squad could make the step up as cover, and decided they weren’t ready.

Given how important a good cup run will be, plus everything else that’s going on, it’s a sensible short-term move.

As others have said, had anything happened to Saltmer we’d have been in trouble.

His video on YouTube is very impressive. Not just signed as cover but is keen to give Jonny S competition.

Seems like a decent signing having performed very well in the lower leagues, and having impressed the Harrogate management team enough to be offered a short-term, and then more longer-term, contract.

I do get the impression that he hasn’t just been signed to provide cover, so maybe we will see him start a few matches over his loan spell.
