Good to see the players taking advantage of the community testing. A very responsible approach and hopefully encourages anyone else who is out there in the community regularly to do the same

The club funded its own tests ahead of the FA Trophy tie - even more responsible IMO.

Yesterday's statement alluded to a lack of testing available, which was one of two reasons why we weren't fulfilling our fixtures. If we are using the Community Testing Scheme for free, with a blessing from a local councillor, does that not now blow a big hole in to our argument?
Until such testing is in place, we believe this is further justification for not playing.

Not really. The article is about DFC using their standing in the community to encourage the local population that don't exhibit symptoms to undertake regular tests. This is for lateral flow testing, which we know has a significant proportion of false negative results and is therefore unreliable for the purposes of 'Elite' sport. All other levels of 'Elite' football from Premiership to EFL receive PCR tests, which are considered to be far more reliable albeit and any errors tend to produce 'false positives' results. Nevertheless, under the circumstances DFC is doing the best it can by accessing lateral flow tests (with a tendency to produce false negatives) and is better than nothing but can't be regarded as fit for purpose for 'Elite' football, otherwise the Premiership and EFL clubs would be using lateral flow tests at a fraction of the cost of lateral flow tests.

Clubs in the EFL are utilising lateral flow tests for their testing programme:
The EFL’s Medical Advisors Dr Richard Higgins and Dr.Subhashis Basu added: “The emergence of a new variant of COVID-19 and the current speed at which the virus is spreading means we are going to have to be prepared to review and implement new practices to ensure we have appropriate measures in place at any given time.

“Lateral flow testing is an important adjunct in our ability to identify infected individuals at an early stage, particularly those with high viral loads as is more common with this new variant, as these people are thought to be most infectious. In addition to hand hygiene, through consistently reinforcing good behavioural practices including physical distancing, wearing facial coverings indoors, reducing time spent in enclosed areas and improving building ventilation, we are taking the most effective steps to reduce further transmission.”
I would also suspect that the testing programme which the National League will introduce will also be lateral flow testing, the same ones being utilised in Darlington.

From your last post, it does suggest that the testing provided by the NL will be equivalent to that undertaken in the EFL and it would be unreasonable for NL clubs to expect anything better. However, it does raise an issue that draws a distinction between NL and NLN/S clubs. NL are essentially full-time. I think it would be easier for full-time players not to mix outside of their own cohort and in the event of an outbreak, they could self-isolate without financial penalty. The same couldn't be said for part-time players in the NLN/S whose full-time jobs could involve a wide range of social mixing that could increase the risk of infection being carried into the community and vice-versa. As a result, part-time players could suffer financial hardship having to self-isolate, depending on the nature of their job.

Of course testing was only one of the reasons mentioned in DJ's statement. The other is the financial risk to the long-term sustainability of the club and that remains valid at least until the outcome of the vote is known.
