His first team match within the football pyramid while employed by a football league team - I think it counts.

I am sceptical to be honest. I think "Professional debut" should only apply to Football League clubs. We may have agree to differ!

The “professional” refers to the status of the player at the time.

Pickford was a full time, professional footballer, while Darlington were also a full time, professional club at the time.

The fact we were National League rather than Football League doesn’t matter. It’s the status of the player that’s important.

Therefore is correct to say he made his first professional appearance for us. If it was Wearside League you might have more of a point. But are we really saying professional appearances for someone like Wrexham or Notts County currently don’t count?

No, that’s silly and you’re therefore wrong. There’s no “agree to differ” about it.

If a professional, non-league club plays a professional league club in the FA Cup and both have a debutant, does it count as a professional debut for one but not the other?

Also, what happens if a part-time player/club plays in the Football League?
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

Dictionary = A professional tennis player: paid, salaried, non-amateur, full-time.

Seeing as both Kasper and Jordan were paid employees of full time clubs and we (at the time) were also a full time pro club I can't see what's confusing about this.

I put "professional" to try to distinguish the obvious fact that both of them would have played numerous B team games, youth games and possibly friendlies, but we were the club that they both turned out for in a proper match.

Maybe Uncle Ray could put this out to his media contacts. It could be a positive story and good publicity if it reached the National Press and TV.

That young Mr Stoddart tweeted it last night - with pictures. With his millions of followers its inevitable it will be all over TV and press.

It was mentioned on the WC tv coverage 3 years ago so there’s a decent chance it’s already on their radar.

I remember telling Pickford he could grow up to be a legend like Jeremy Roberts if he cut out eating the prawn cocktail pringles.

He never stopped I guess

Just a poor man's Neil Smallwood now.

Has Kasper got any relatives that played the game?

His surname founds familiar
Anyone know?
