Chester Away

Post by AndyPark » Thu Nov 11, 2021 1:15 pm

With a decent following expected to go down to Chester at the weekend, I’d advise people to buy online before the game.

It was a right f*ck having to queue at the ticket office, then the turnstile in the FA Cup game. Just be easier to save yourselves time by getting it online if possible.

Scroll to the the bottom of the page and there is a dedicated section for away supporters

See you down there. #UpTheDarlo

Agree Andy, I queued last time and even with a short queue it took a while as they print a sheet out. The real ale crew would probably get in for half time.....

There will be no queue when we get there. :D

Cheers Andy for the heads up.

Sometimes it pays to be late. I once arrived late at Chester and had ring the bell to get in! A man in a blazer took me down the tunnel and round to the away end as the turnstiles were all shut. Anyone remember the old Sealand Road ground? That could be rough, at least it was when I went with some Tranmere mates in the late 70's.

I once hich hiked there as a young,(ish), lad and slept in my sleeping bag beside the river overnight.
Come the game I went into the main stand. By that time quite a wind had blown up.
I spent more time watching the roof to make sure it did not fall in on me than I did watching the game.
That was a few months before they sold the Futcher brothers to give the timeline.

Hitch hiking! There's a lost art. I used to hitch hike all over the country to the footie. I broke down on the motorway going to the Rochdale play-off and managed to get lifts in two cars when my eldest valiantly stayed with the car. The public transport battle across Greater Manchester home is another story.

I think you can pay on the gate by card - that's what I did for the cup game and it says as much on the Chester site. Wasn't much of a queue.

Sounds like it will largely be the team from the Kettering game with Wheatley swapped in for Purver. Happy with that as after the first 30 minutes we were good in and out of possession.

-------------------------- Taylor ----------------------
Griffiths --- Cooper --- Storey --- Hedley
Rivers --- Wheatley --- Rose --- Lambert
------------------------ Hatfield ----------------------
------------------------ Cassidy ----------------------

And so the Ellis injury saga continues. Initially it was some kind of abdominal strain, then a calf injury and now an ankle problem. Perhaps we are now beginning to see why Farsley were willing to let him go.

working down the body? Metatarsal injury next?

BTW Notice how metatarsal injuries are no longer fashionable in football in general

Back at a similar time or even earlier I went to Bournmouth, Torquay, and Exeter on 3 weekends out of 4. I dread to think of anyone hitching the number of miles I used to do nowadays. Yes motorways make it quicker but also more difficult to get people to stop, and if they pull off at a junction you are totally stuck.
My sleeping bag was inside a wrap-around I made with heavy-duty plastic so I could stop anywhere and was safe from water coming up or down during the nights.
Happy days.

No Wheatley, today not on the bench, he was out last week with personal stuff, so can only assume it’s still that.

1 up Cooper 👍

Finished 2-2. Tough to take after being 2 up but honestly would have been happy with a draw before kick off. Hopefully we can get Ellis and Smith back in contention for next Saturday. Positive note 3 games unbeaten.

Would we have settled for a point before hand ? Bit of a disappointment but that's because we expect more now - are Chester a lucky lot or what ?

Listened to the game on the internet. Thought we might have held out as we seemed to be playing well, missing the 2 one on one's in the first half didn't help mind.
Sounds like their gamble of pushing everyone forward paid off.
Got to say I was very impressed with Alex Purver on the commentary his knowledge is first class.

Probably always destined to end like that as both teams score a lot and concede a lot. Sounded a good, entertaining, end-to-end game with chances and close calls at both ends and they got their point chucking loads up front and putting us on the back foot for the last few minutes. I don't know if the stats back it up (I suspect they do) but we do seem to leak a lot of goals from headers. And we've only managed 2 clean sheets in 14 league games.

These are the points dropped that will cost us challenging the play-offs. I'll admit I was dubious about some of the signings made in the summer and to an extent this is justified as it has still taken some transfer tweaking to get the competitive squad we have now. We are improved but still not the finished product and while we drop points like these at 2-0 up, mid-table is probably what we will have to accept.
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

Maybe just about fair in the end and on the evidence so far this season us and Chester will finish the season fairly close together in the table, maybe around mid-table which is probably OK after the major rebuild.

Anthony Johnson fully expected a point with ten minutes to go....
