Andrew Nelson

Post by onewayup » Mon Dec 13, 2021 2:31 pm

I am not sure what the problem is with Andrew, he's on the bench comes on for 10/15mins occasionally then back to being almost there, For me Andrew needs to be showing signs that he's eager to get on the pitch showing that he can still do what we all know he can , if Andrew can't get to the point of returning then it's a matter for the management and board, I would love to see him back to where he was before he left last time round, the lads obviously got talent ,
We are a quality man short while he's warming the bench. No news from the club for a while re his rehabilitation. It's been a long time. Hopefully Andrew isn't that far away from competing.

His problem is a knackered knee and I don’t think anyone is more eager to get on the pitch than Nelson himself

Really hope he gets himself fit and back to the form he showed when on loan, him and Charman would be some pairing.

Don’t think the lad can help having setbacks to an absolute nightmare of an injury. He’s had nothing but bad luck since heading south to Torquay.

Had a chat with him on Saturday and he’s desperate to play, but I’d rather we took our time with him to ensure he’s fully fit instead of risking him and further injuring himself.

Has he not been doing that when he's come on as a sub and been working with Danny O'Connor behind the scenes?

Heard Styche is now at Stourbridge FC having left Hednesford. Apparently acquired "cult status" with us & nicknamed Brutus by Gibraltar's coach. Certainly gets around a bit!

its a difficult one, we fought tooth and nail to get him, and no doubt his agent go him a few extra bob, but at some point he needs to find out what is happening with his injury. I have got no problem with him going to see a specialist to see what they think at the clubs expense, he is an asset to us after all. We are lucky that Charman has had a run of games (I had a fear he would be too injury prone as well), and Cassidy seems to be a good foil upfront with him doing all the dirty stuff.

Wonder if it would be a good idea for him to go out on loan to a lower level team to test his fitness. A month in the Northern League to get some game time and hopefully bag a few goals might just be what he needs to kick start his career. If after 5 months of rehab training with us you have to wonder whether he is ever going to make it back. Really hope he can step up as it would be a tragedy for the lad if his career ends early.

Well he would certainly receive the kick part of the kick start in the NL......

:D My thoughts too. He's too valuable to be playing against the Dog and Duck.

He needs to prove himself and a loan further down the pyramid may help him do that. Not sure how he can be too valuable to go out on loan when he currently has little value to us as he is not getting game time. Is it not similar to the situation when Sunderland loaned him to us after an injury and he thrived whilst here. Maybe the same could happen again.

Whatever is decided about Andrew it has to be a step forward. /loaned out to get his confidence and fitness back. Or playing more minutes for our first team to get where he is an asset to the club .
I only want the best for all concerned andrew/club/fans. Onwards and upwards everyone.

Very talented footballer that could (when fit) score a lot of goals at this level, I'm really hoping he can get back to fitness and gets a chance, id rather him stay but I do understand we can’t afford to carry players.

Its sad, but Alun Armstrong mentioned the other month that he needs to be starting playing, or words to that effect. We cant carry players forever, and sooner (hopefully rather than later), a decision will have to be made as to whether he can carry on playing on a regular basis.

Article in today’s Echo giving more details of his current injury situation. In November he had a platelet rich plasma injection to help the healing of troublesome tissue in his knee. This appeared to have worked but unfortunately he has broken down again. He is now being referred back to the surgeon who performed his knee operation for further discussion of his problem.
Unfortunately, he is really struggling to regain his fitness and a great shame for the lad on a personal level as well as for the club.

Damn, I wonder if there are any options left short of more surgery.

Pleased that the club are giving Andrew every chance to get playing again, spoke to Danny last week and still hopeful of getting him back on the pitch this season.Would loved to have seen him alongside Charman so fingers crossed this may yet happen, but a fit Nelson playing like he did for us previously would be brilliant
Fingers crossed the surgeon will have some positive news.
