Re: Thompson
Not even on the bench lately, they have 3 or 4 wide players ahead of Thommo so no surprise.D_F_C wrote:Rumour that he’s leaving Spenny, which wouldn’t surprise me

I’d have him back here no problem.

Think he's better than that Adam, Whitby or Morpeth possibly?Vodka_Vic wrote:My bet's on Shildon, riding high at Step 4

Re: Thompson
I'll bet there's a story going on behind the scenes with the Chuckle Brothers. They've also just blasted out Brad Abbott, who was the star of the show earlier in the season.

They have to be able to afford him though...QUAKERMAN2 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 6:13 pmThink he's better than that Adam, Whitby or Morpeth possibly?Vodka_Vic wrote:My bet's on Shildon, riding high at Step 4
Re: Thompson
I seem to remember the chuckles wanted to sign Steve Thompson while they were at another club a few years back., thomo can do a job for someone but it would be a step below he still has a passion for the game.
Re: Thompson
Wonder if they have been a bit disappointed with him since they arrived. Unfortunately for them, he is not quite the same player who used to play so well against them when they were at Salford.
Re: Thompson
Fantastic player in his day and probably the stand-out player of our last 10 years - but he was a squad player for us in his last season, isn't getting in Spenny's team anymore. He wouldn't add any value to our current squad so why tarnish the great memories we all have of him?
I'm sure he'll do a terrific job a couple of divisions down and hope he finds the right club.

Re: Thompson
Darlo legend, but going off his performance against us and his lack of games at Spenny I don’t think he’s up to this level anymore. If I had to bet on him going somewhere maybe Hebburn?

Re: Thompson
There seemed to be a trend of people calling for the return of former players to plug gaps in the current squad, Thommo was an integral part of our rise up from the Northern League and was a fantastic player for us but like Gary Brown and Terry Galbraith et al who went before him it was time to move on.
Wouldn't be surprised to see him pop up in the Northern League, good luck to him wherever he goes.

Re: Thompson
Spenny has proven stony ground for many a frontman with previous good records. They usually end up sitting on their arses watching Glen Taylor (and Ramshaw to a much lesser extent) popping them in before moving on after a season or two of feeling the Spennymoor vibes but not much action. Just ask Adam Boyes and a few others.
I'll bet players like Mark Anderson and Thommo were absolutely thrilled last night to endure that 4-1 humping by Ryhope Colliery Welfare surrounded by youth players in front of fewer than 300 on a rainswept night at the Brewery Field.

Re: Thompson
Thommo joins Marske on an initial 28 day loan, following Jason Kennedy who has made his move there permanent following an initial loan deal. New managers certainly being quick to put their own stamp on the team, and the coaching staff considering Kennedy was a player coach.
Good move for him, hope he plays and does well. Will always be fondly remembers for some of the memories and goals he gave us.

Thommo was a brilliant signing for us, scored some great goals and loved his style of play.Thats a great signing by Marske and he will score goals for them without a doubtJE93 wrote:Thommo joins Marske on an initial 28 day loan, following Jason Kennedy who has made his move there permanent following an initial loan deal. This is nothing new with Darlo fans, there's an obsession with bringing people back (on and off the pitch) who have been at the club before with a section of our support.quaker4life wrote:There seemed to be a trend of people calling for the return of former players to plug gaps in the current squad, Thommo was an integral part of our rise up from the Northern League and was a fantastic player for us but like Gary Brown and Terry Galbraith et al who went before him it was time to move on.

Re: Thompson
Love Thommo - but it was very clear in the last few months of his time with us he had started to decline, or maybe this league was beginning to become tougher and tougher. So I was very surprised when Spenny chucked a loads of money at him. Good luck to him.
