Can anyone confirm my vague recollection that Nigel Pepper got sent off three times against Darlo in the 1990/91 season (we played York in the FA Cup as well in case you’re wondering how it was three times)?
If so, that’s a cracking stat.

That's my recollection, yes. I was at all three games. Seems he wasn't much better at Aberdeen where he was sent off 3 times in his 15 games for them:

"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

That's how I remember it, we played them twice in the league, twice in the FA Cup and once in the Leyland Daf. I think Pepper only played in four of them though but managed to get sent off 3 times.

"Wright’s debut against Motherwell would have made Nigel Pepper proud. An attempted headbutt, two late challenges and a miss from point blank range all occurred in one twenty minute substitute appearance."

We well and truly did a job on Aberdeen - Tommy Wright wasn’t the worst centre forward we’ve had - but £100k back then!
