New stadium funding

Re: New stadium funding
Deffo won't be getting any EU funding or from Saudi Arabian Investment fund or the dodgy Ruskies who fund Chelsea & Everton. Perhaps Ben H is selling us some land at Teesside Airport with promise of light rail connection from Bishop & Saltburn with the new station?

There isn’t a new station at the airport and the current one is foooked, that’s why nowt is stopping there. The cost of building light rail from Bishop to Saltburn you could have heavy rail every 10 minutes till the end of time.
Waiting for Raj to shaft them!

The government chose to let it fail. Just like they chose to throw money at a failing airport. He’s as bent as a nine bob note. As for him as an individual, you’d think most of our fans wouldn’t think much of him, given he spends 50% of his time masquerading as a Hartlepool fan, and 50% pretending he’s Boro.Fatty eats roadkill wrote: ↑Fri May 20, 2022 8:29 pmNo passenger train stops at Teesside Airport and won’t be for a long long time.

I’m sure there will be some grant funding, in an earlier interview DJ said that Bury got about a million quid to help with Gigg Lane.
That’s not the issue though, DJ does say that 7% yield on the total 5mil will only be 7 grand a year interest cost, which makes no sense to me

You would have been the first to moan had the government bailed out a failing business (the steelworks). How can it be there fsult a private business failed, they took over and ran scunthorpe steel works until a buyer was found because they had orders thats whyH1987 wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 12:28 amThe government chose to let it fail. The positive I took from D.J’s interview was that the proposed 4G pitch is an additional feature, meaning we play on grass.
The best of both worlds.

If they gave us more details, then it would be a massive boost for BTB.

What are you after? Given the update said there wasn't actually a specific location determined.Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 4:43 pmIf they gave us more details, then it would be a massive boost for BTB.
It sounds like we will go wherever it is decided that a football ground would fit best with the town's planning. Until that is established what else can be said?
Re: New stadium funding
7% of 5 million is 350,000 so it probably means 7 grand a week?MB86DFC wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 7:44 amI’m sure there will be some grant funding, in an earlier interview DJ said that Bury got about a million quid to help with Gigg Lane.

Re: New stadium funding
Surely it is 7per cent over 50 years. In other words £7k per year x 50 years = £350k in total.
Re: New stadium funding
Why would someone lend you £5million for 50 years for £350k.
Sticking it in a savings account with 1% interest would earn someone more than £2.5million (£50k per year X 50 years)
Given 5m would be worth conservatively about £50m in 50 years. And they would have received back £5.35m.
That would be equivalent to a minus 90% return on investment.
Re: New stadium funding
No company is lending 5 million to get 7 grand a year back, especially to one with the risk we would pose (that meaning that should we default and they take the stadium back, who is going to buy / lease it to return their investment?)
As Lo states, a standard savings account will return way higher.

As Lo states, a standard savings account will return way higher, even without calculating compound interest return.

Re: New stadium funding
At the time the EU were wanting to put tariffs on cheap Chinese steal (which would have clearly protected the UK steel industry) but this plan was blocked by Cameron’s government. The government has bailed out underperforming industries in the past (and still does) but jobs on Teesside were clearly not strategically important to them.
We can blame the Tories (and I often do) but the real problem is the mainstream parties’ commitment to rapacious neoliberal unregulated capitalism. Labour were little better under globalist Blair (and now establishment lapdog Sir Keir Starmer QC). A plague on all their houses.
I fear, however, that this thread may end up in the Off-Topic section, so I’ll shut up.

Re: New stadium funding
Fleetwood have a larger car park alongside the social club, behind the old main stand. ( The one where they built a new stand in front of it and left old stand in place). This being the opposite side of ground to their Main Stand

Re: New stadium funding
AFC Wimbledon's new stadium doesn't have parking for fans. Neither does Morecambe. they are both relatively new built stadiums.
Re: New stadium funding
If the ground is in the town centre there's no need for parking.feethams wrote:AFC Wimbledon's new stadium doesn't have parking for fans. Neither does Morecambe. they are both relatively new built stadiums.

Re: New stadium funding
Are you sure about Morecambe they have a quite large car park? Not been outside on a match day but assumed it would be used by spectators.
To be fair Tyson Fury's driveway could probably accommodate about 50 cars though there would be a fine line between irony and stupidity if you were to park on his land I guess.
Re: New stadium funding
There is need for parking for 4 away directors cars , the match officials and there needs to be an arrangement for visiting team's bus ( albeit the bus at leastseemingly can be parked away from the ground after dropping team off
July 2021 Grad A Ground Grading1.6 Parking Facilities
Parking facilities must be provided for directors, with a minimum number of 4 places for visiting
directors.
There must be safe parking arrangements for the visiting team's coach.
Unmarked parking facilities must also be provided for the match officials.
Car parking within the boundary of the ground on match days may not be acceptable
Re: New stadium funding
Well yes, obviously. And disabled parking, but what I'm getting at is we don't need to bolt on an extra football pitch worth of land for people to leave their cars on, as seems the way for most developments these days.

Re: New stadium funding
The issue in Darlington is that public transport is basically non-existent/useless/expensive (delete as applicable). If you're going to build an out of town stadium, it probably really does need the parking. If it does end up where is being talked about, it's not walkable for 90%+ of the town.
Re: New stadium funding
Out of town, yes, it'll need some car parking unfortunately. Maybe we could do something forward thinking and work with the council to provide some decent active travel routes from the town to the ground as well?H1987 wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 4:12 pmThe issue in Darlington is that public transport is basically non-existent/useless/expensive (delete as applicable).
