The Top 12, Friday April 15th 2022

Post by Ginge01 » Sat Apr 16, 2022 4:47 am

On Darlo Fans Radio today, the topic of ‘had the balloon burst’ was discussed. If Darlington’s balloon has not burst, then it’s leaking air badly and deflating before our eyes. York had this effect recently when they took 1 point from 9 but appear to be reinflating their playoff hopes again after a win today. For Darlington to reinflate their playoff hopes, they will have to take care of their own business, that will need more passion in their game, and scoring goals that result in wins, nothing less. Another loss at Gateshead with teams like York / Boston / Kettering winning, then the Darlington balloon will have burst as the points gap will be too large with four games remaining, the dream of the playoffs will be ended. Not the Easter gift we were all hoping for, just a week ago before the Alfreton game.

Comments

Going for the league championship, Brackley failing to win today now makes Gateshead favourites to win the league, they may have to win every game to do so.

02. Brackley....... 37 15 2 1... 9 8 .2. 49 19. 30.. 82

The playoff second group, the four point gap remains with both teams drawing today.

The playoff third group, those occupying fifth thru seven place, Chorley’s lead has narrowed with their loss today. Both York and Boston won today. York’s wobble may be over and with easier games to play may be sure of the sixth place at seasons end. Boston and Kettering are fighting for the last place at this moment.

Great summary Ginge as per usual, but it doesn't make comfortable reading for Darlo fans. Sadly a point on Monday will be not enough. Hopefully we'll have a large following on Monday.

Why does it make uncomfortable reading...we are 10th in the league? I will say this again, we are nowhere near ready for promotion.

The result yesterday is disappointing of course but the bigger picture is that we are not quite in a position to properly sustain a shot at the National League. Stop the overreaction, this is where the club is at the moment - a top 10 National League North club. If anything this is where the club might have difficulty managing expectations for the next season or two and for supporters to understand this.
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"
