Good news today
Scarborough will in our league next season, beating Warrington 2. 1 today.
A nice away day to look forward to

Re: Good news today
Delighted for them. Proper football club and a proper away day. Will have to try and make the trip for that one. Interested to see their new ground.
Peterborough Sports also. Which is an easy trip on the train, if nothing else.

Would make an excellent first game of the season. What’s the betting it is a midweek fixtureDarlopartisan wrote: ↑Mon May 02, 2022 5:55 pmScarborough will in our league next season, beating Warrington 2. 1 today.

Isn’t Jordan Nicholson at Peterborough Sports now?
Never argue with an idiot: The best possible outcome is that you win an argument with an idiot.

And well done to gateshead, the only north east team who has ever been promoted to the national league

Pretty much certain that Spennymoor can't get to the playoffs too.

They have to win their final game at home to Chorley and hope the 3 sides above them all fail to win.theoriginalfatcat wrote:Pretty much certain that Spennymoor can't get to the playoffs too.

Congrats to Scarborough & looks like they have got it right about finding a ground back in Scarborough although will have to invest in improving it in future. Still, an enviable problem to have & hope DFC can learn from their example.
Re: Good news today
Which bits should we learn from?
Getting hold of a council owned ground rather than owned by the club, piggybacking on a £50million investment to secure a facility, just building the bare minimum needed for the level that is required (so mostly flat standing with 500 covered seats and sufficient covered terracing to get the ground up to minimum capacity required?), or the bit about playing outside of town for 10 years at step 3 and below until these pieces became possible?
Re: Good news today
They have improved that now though. There's a decent stand opposite the small main stand. I don't know if they need to do more to meet the requirements at this level, but it's reasonably tidy looking right now.
Re: Good news today
They would meet minimum for playoffs at our with 500 and something seats. It's still over 50% flat standing I thought but could be wrong.
I didn't think any of their stands were full length and what they were gifted courtesy of the development, which I think came from central government as part of a regional regeneration piece, was smaller than Bishop Auckland.
To be fair though does suggest we learnt something and maybe why we were keen to host Nadine Dorries when we did!
Other than that how to make a ground with smaller capacity (3,281 v 2,833) than the one we have but take three times as long to do it (5 years v 15 years)
Re: Good news today
I don’t know all the statistics but I’ve watched the highlights and it definitely isn’t all hard standing.
There’s a main stand with seats raised above standing (kinda like Bishop), a sizeable stand opposite with seats in the middle and terracing on either side, and a terrace behind one of the goals. One end looks to be hard standing but the others have stands that I would assume they can extend.

Re: Good news today
Not quite, yes getting a ground in town and yes, a pitch dedicated to association football. Yes to a responsible landlord although not sure that DBC would fulfil this criteria. As I said, further investment in the ground is needed as like BM, there is a lot of flat standing & a limited number of covered seating.lo36789 wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 7:32 amWhich bits should we learn from?

Re: Good news today
In the Mirror, Gary Neville claims that Salford have had to spend "millions & millions on the ground" to bring it up to League 2 standard. Last financial year they lost £4.7M, about £91k a week.
This is quite a reality check for us and I am glad we have DJ on board to keep our ambitions on track & within our own financial constraints.

Re: Good news today
As a fan owned football club there is no way we would get back in the football league within the next 5 years or more so imagine what it would cost then to have a ground and team to compete. But will be quite happy for us to flirt with the playoffs now and again.
