Re: Retained list
Had some great games for us and some brilliant moments - the equaliser at Walsall will live long in the memory.
But he’d definitely reached the end of the road with us and fresh challenge for him was needed.
Some will get worked up by the fact he’s gone to Spenny, but he’d undoubtedly got to a point where he needed to move on from us.
All the best to him.

Yeh all the best to him. Still young enough to get his career back on track - sometimes you have to go backwards to move forwards.

Might suit their style of play...he is in the mould of what Gary Stopforth used to provide their Ramsbottom, Salford and Chester sides.

Re: Retained list
They seem to have a few centre midfielders now, presumably ramshaw and chandler still there? And they signed another one today on top of Wheatley.

Yes, Danny Greenfield has signed for The Pride.
I hear a 5 figure signing on fee and a salary that we just couldn't compete with...

Re: Retained list
They are full time this season aren't they? That was the intent when they hired Johnson and Morley it was explicitly advertised as a role for a full time squad.
I would be more surprised if we could compete.
You wonder what Buxton are throwing at things this season. Whatever it is convinced Jamie Vermiglio the grass was greener than Chorley.

Re: Retained list
Really happy to keep Griffiths. A solid performer in my opinion and helps keep some continuity in the back line. And with the extra games this season, he, Hedley and Sukar will get plenty of match time.
Think that takes us to 15 players in the squad now. Pretty clear what we need as well. A centre back, another midfielder and a couple of options up front and we’ll be just about there.

Totally agree , I think he is a very solid fullback at our level, squad coming together quite nicelyDarlogramps wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 9:48 amReally happy to keep Griffiths. Re: Retained list
Turned down offers from other North East clubs from what I hear, really solid fullback so glad to hear he's signed for another year.

Anyone heard about any potential incomings?
Been a while since we've announced a new player

Re: Retained list
I think the difference between this season and last is that we already have about 15 players tied down, all of whom are pretty decent. We need a few more additions, but we could put out a competitive starting X1 already, and we can afford to take our time with further signings.
Re: Retained list
Glad to have Griffiths for another campaign. He will learn a lot playing alongside Wheater & hopefully continue to improve. At least the defence will start with some understanding between themselves & not have to build one from scratch after the league kicks off. We need a good start in August in order to provide a platform for promotion
Re: Retained list
Tyrone O’Neill becomes a free agent after his contract at Scunthorpe is terminated by mutual consent.
I'd imagine Alun will be interested considering he's signed him three times already and If we could get the player back from his initial spell he would certainly improve us but it's been a while since he delivered like that for us.
With Hazel and Mondal already on the books there is probably only one more Senior CF space up for grabs in the squad and with someone like Beck available who offers us something different to what we have really can't decide on him.

Re: Retained list
Happy with O’Neill coming back, but if I had a choice between him and Beck , I’d choose Beck.
A fit and well motivated O’Neill would be brilliant, he clearly wasn’t 100 percent fit towards the end of his loan.
Beck would give us something completely different up front, be a brilliant signing, suspect he be off somewhere else

Re: Retained list
I’d only sign O’Neill on a trial basis or short term contract as his last loan wouldn’t suggest that he is currently worth some of of our permanent budget. Prove himself, show he his fit and interested, score some goals and then talk about a contract.
Becks an interesting one as realistically cannot imagine either he or Hazel would be happy not being a regular which would probably mean only 2 midfielders in a 424 again which in my opinion rarely works. Having said that a forward line of Beck and hazel sounds like a winner too!
Some positive news on a signing or two would be good.

Re: Retained list
Agree about taking Tyrone on a trial basis. He is still young enough to get his career back on track, but after the disappointment with Nelson I think we need to be cautious about offering contracts to players who have fitness doubts.
Re: Retained list
If Tyrone did join us it would be his 4th spell. Almost as many Darlo returns as Liam Hatch.

Re: Retained list
Not for me. He was good in his first spell, but not good enough in the next two.

Re: Retained list
This. Why give a trial/short-term contract to a player who hasn't really delivered in his last two short-term spells with the club? He seems to have a bit of cult status from his relatively first successful first spell with us which seems to be clouding some people's judgment; but that was a long time ago now and he's not kicked on. I'd be looking elsewhere - Beck is probably a stretch but if he were a genuine option....well they're not in the same league.darlo2001uk wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 9:17 amNot for me. Re: Retained list
You never know for sure, O’Neill might have come disillusioned with it all , having played well for us , getting his full time contract with Scunthorpe, getting his chance, not going well for him, getting injured, coming back to us, not playing well then injured again, so yeah, he just might need to reset himself, start enjoying his football again.
If that’s with us or somewhere else, there’s definitely a good footballer in there

Re: Retained list
Yes maybe, but it's too big a risk for me. We know Mondal is a squad player at best, so only leaves Hazell who is unproven at this level despite an impressive record at the level below. I don't think I'd be gambling on a young players who has been out of sorts for a couple of seasons now - but I'm not the Manager.

Re: Retained list
I'd sign O'Neill any day of the week on a 1 year deal with an option, no farting about with trials. In any case, he might have his sights set higher than us.
I rate O'Neill higher than Beck.
That's not to say that Beck couldn't be a good signing for us if we could get him.
