Best Darlo goals you’ve seen live

1. Gabbiadini (home to Exeter 1998-99 season. Completed his hat trick by beating three men and then lashing one into the top corner from 30 yards)

2. Gabbiadini (home to Leyton Orient 1999-00 season. Hit one on the outside of his boot and chipped the keeper on an angle)

3. Martin Smith (away to ….?? It was a cup game), hit it first time on the volley, a bit like that famous Justin Fashanu goal. Am guessing 2005-06 season?

What others have people seen?

Jason Kennedy - (vs Rochdale) league 2 play-off semi final 1st leg.

Pawel Abbott - (vs Grimsby at home at the arena?) Lobbed the keeper from the edge of the 18 yard box when he was about a yard off his line.

The Martin Smith one...I'm assuming I'm talking about the one you mean, as he only scored crackers...will have been the goal away to Lewes in the FA Cup, where we won 4-1.

This topic has been done before and once again it reminded me of a brilliant, rather unusual goal from about 98/99. To quote myself from a previous thread....

.... "Lee Ellison (2nd time round) No one EVER mentions this goal and it sometimes feels to me that I am the only one who witnessed it - but it did happen because I saw it with my own two eyes. We were stood behind the goal at the opposite end to The Tin Shed when Lee chased down a loose ball that everyone else had left to run out of play. The ball ended up about a foot inside the dead ball line quite close to the goal and from that angle Lee simply hooked it up into the roof of the net."

I got a good view of this because I was right down at the front of the terracing just to the side of the goal, and credit to Ellison here as he seemed to be the only player who was switched on.

A better one than this was his strike against Chester in a 1-0 win at the Arena in the JP Trophy (I suppose what is the Papa John's Trophy now?), a strike on the half volley from about 35 yards into the top corner. I think we got to the Northern semifinals that year, think maybe 06/07 season?

Gabbiadini scored some crackers but the best I’ve seen was Mitch cook’s left foot volley v Northampton 90/91 season, wish I could find a video/replay of it

Gabbiadini, for the 2nd part of his first season and the 1st part of his second season, he was amazing

I remember a goal he scored away at P'boro. He chested down a long range diagonal pass, then with a defender right behind him and seemingly having no room, he pivoted round and shot - placing the ball perfectly out of reach of the goalie. He was a fair distance out as well.

My memory isn't what it used to be, so I'll suggest a couple of recent ones:
- Nathan Cartman's goal V Tamworth (16/17 season) - an impressive team goal which Alan Partridge would have described as "Liquid Football".
- Thommo v Kidderminster (18/19 season) - plucked out of the air and lobbed the keeper.

Can't remember the details but I do remember from a similar era Lee Gaskell was always a scorer of spectacular goals. Didn't he score a wonder-goal against Salford in one of our famous battles with them?

Am I imagining it but did Gabbiadini score a cracker of a goal at Northampton in the win there in December 99?

  This was brilliant. Hughes crosses it up and across, Thommo executes a lob par excellence. If this had been on MOTD Lineker and pundits would have been drooling.

Giving my age away now, so FA Cup 2nd round December 1976 against Sheffield Wednesday, who had been putting us through the mill & testing our resistance most of the game, finally we got the ball just into their half to big Ron Ferguson. He slipped his marker but, lacking forward support, about 35yds out unleashed a thunderbolt from in front of West stand and it flew past a helpless keeper into the net. Rest of the team weŕe relieved & amazed to hang on & get into 3rd round (only to lose to Orient)

Have to agree with the Ron Ferguson one but any goal Darlo score is a good one

Older Quakers must remember at least one John Peveril power blaster. My own favourite was the third goal in a classic match with Donny Rovers in 1971. He sized it up from about thirty yards and there was only going to be one outcome. Pev is a true Darlo legend and apparently still appears in Neil Warnocks' nightmares - says Neil 'he was built like a bouncer and played like one too' but he was a very good footballer as well.

Beat me to it.
I was in the East stand paddock by the dugouts and right behind Ron. The ball lifted and curled and their keeper dived but couldn't reach it as it dropped into the top corner. Over 7000 fans all seemed to be owls fans, till that went in.
After that maybe Robbie Painters 40 yard lob over the keeper against Chester in 96 I think, then maybe one of Alan Walsh's 4 second half goals in the polam end in the 5-2 win against Hartlepool in the early 80s.
And of course Chris Seniors fa trophy winner. If the hairs on the back of your neck go up when you watch that you have passed the darlo fan test.

A 5-0 home win against Chester in about 68.
Ken Hale hit a screamer from about 5 yards inside Chesters half towards the South End that looked a worldie, only to be outdone a few minutes later when Pev hit 1 from the same area, (slightly right of centre), but from about 5 yards inside OUR half. Unbelievable Jeff.
1 of the few games I ever watched from behind the goal as I prefered being higher up the stands.

Mark Dobie January 1993 vs Bolton in the (Autoglass) Trophy. Volley from the edge of the box placed into the top corner with the laces in front of the tin shed. Took it to 3-3 and extra time I think. We lost 4-3 of course.

I only saw this 'live' on the games highlights but it's good to note a really good one from this year; Mondals' winner at Leamington. A flowing move right from the back completely opening up their defence and a really good finish - ball on the deck at pace till it got to Mondal who showed his worth.

I remember that game (and goal). Bolton had beaten Liverpool at Anfield in the FA Cup a few days earlier I think.
