Whitby 30th July 2022

Post by Old Git » Fri Jul 29, 2022 11:15 am

Looking forward to a day out at the seaside with a couple of friends. Hopefully an enjoyable game, fish and chips and a few beers( not driving).
Expecting to see a strong team starting, given this is the last preseason game, and hopefully a few of the wrinkles at Guiesley will have been ironed out. Not sure if Rivers is recovered from illness, but expect to see a starting X1 along these lines.

Taylor
Hedley. Wheater. Lawlor. Sukar
Rivers/Maddison. Moke. Purver. Lambert
Hazel. Beck
Subs. Martin, Griffiths, Rose, Mondal, Rivers/Maddison.

Looking forward to it too OG. Hopefully this will be the team to start the first game (at least for 45mins). Will be interesting after Guiseley game to see what they learned and put into action.

Think the starting 11 tomorrow May well be same as planned for next Sat if all fit. Agree except think Rose is a certain starter probably instead of Purver and think Griffiths May start too.Think Maddison will be on bench for first part of season to come on if we struggling. Who knows, hopefully AA.
Still think need 3 loanees, Centre half, attacking midfielder, winger with pace and we will be set.

I agree Rose should be in our starting 11, my only worry is that (I might be wrong) has not featured in any preseason games.

Was one of our better players against Rochdale I thought.

How many will be at whitby's Turnbull ground today, I think the early kick off will curtail quite alot.

Taylor, Hedley, Lawlor, Wheater, Sukar, Moke, Purver, Maddison, Hazel, Lambert, Beck

Subs: Mondal, Martin, Griffiths, Hughes (triallist), Emery (triallist)

Only 2 missing and our squad is extremely thin, Rose not in the squad is a huge concern for me - we are much better with him in the side

Shades of Tommy Wright era here, regarding the squad size. So that's a worry.

Although most TW era players were shite and/or lived 200 miles away.

Basically any injuries or suspensions and we can't fill the bench without using youths.

It's definitely a gamble, but if we can add 3 or 4 good loanees to the squad (far more likely to happen once the season is underway and other clubs know their options) then we should be reasonably well covered.

I'd imagine that's the plan. Get some good quality long term loans in, whereas Wright had to bring in the loans half way through as it became clear the majority of the players he'd brought in weren't good enough or fit enough.

We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.

Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

We definitely reinforcements.

Any reason why Rose has missed so much of Pre-Season, that’s a worry? He’s a huge player.

Rose was there today and was doing some work with Danny. His thigh was strapped and his running looked a bit laboured, so might be a few weeks away. Rivers also doing some work as well looked to be running much more freely, so he maybe ok for next week.

To be fair I’ve missed most of this preseason, but I’m definitely ready for next Saturday 👍😀

Not sure the players are based on the past two performances.

Just seen Danny and his wife has introduced a new baby to the world tonight, might have been the reason he’s been away lately.

Congrats Danny.

Think AA says it’s a calf injury

But congratulations Danny

To the wolf? Is this a northern tradition I'm unaware of?

Bloody predictive text

Hopefully he’s okay for the Gloucester game if it’s been a calf injury that’s kept him out.

Calf, Wolf Let's hope Danny's dogged determination will get him fit.

Well that is preseason done. Not surprisingly a bit of a mixed bag overall, some encouraging things and other aspects need more work. It looks like we are in a better position than this time last year and can’t wait for the season to begin.
I honestly think that a top 10 position is possible, but we may lack the strength in depth to mount a serious assault on promotion. Hopefully, we will establish ourselves in the top half of the league and have an outside chance of making the playoffs.

Squad still short of 3 players imo, would like to think some news from AA this week.Wonder if a decision has been made on the 2 trialists who we have had for the majority of the friendliest.
