Darlington V Gloucester
Really looking forward to the start of the season.
The small squad means the starting 11 will be relatively easy to pick, even more so if we get some injuries.
More difficult to choose will be our style of play, 442, a diamond behind the front two, AA was alluding to how we played better with the diamond at Whitby .
Whichever lineup is picked or the style of play chosen, we have some real quality players, so I’m quietly confident this season is going to be belting.

Re: Darlington V Gloucester
I'm pretty sure the squad will be added to with loans but I think Spennymoor only have 16 players, Scarborough 17 and Blyth have 26!!! Hopefully our squad's quality over quantity. Looking forward to getting to two of our first three games, meeting up with the usual suspects and hopefully watching footie in the sunshine. 50/50 tickets and perhaps improved food feedback?
Re: Darlington V Gloucester
I went to the open training session yesterday and they had the team photo before getting into training. They had two lads in the photo that didn’t have a name on the back of their shirts. One of them was Alfie Hughes and the other I am unsure, either Emery or Winstanley. So that pushes up our squad to at least 18/19 players.
Re: Darlington V Gloucester
Having just googled Alfie Hughes, is he the ex-Leeds player, left winger? I see he was on trial with Newcastle just a few months back so presumably has something about him if other PL clubs were looking at him prior to his release from Leeds.darloed19 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 8:23 amI went to the open training session yesterday and they had the team photo before getting into training. Re: Darlington V Gloucester
Its a pretty experienced squad, five over thirty & I was surprised we only have three players under 25(Martin,Hedley and Lambert) years of age, so a few youngsters and loanees added in coming days/weeks would certainly benefit from these guys and give us extra legs in the last 15 minutes of games.darloed19 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 8:23 amI went to the open training session yesterday and they had the team photo before getting into training. Re: Darlington V Gloucester
Re Lambert - he is probably the only player we have at present who could get tempted away by another club.

Saw Alfie Hughes v Boro and Guiseley. Impossible to draw any conclusions about him in the brief time he was on the pitch.

Just hope Rose is fit to play , he is an outstanding player. Can't wait for Saturday, come on Darlo

Re: Darlington V Gloucester
Darlo 2 Gloucester 0
National League next year. Nothing can stop us now.
Darlo 0 Gloucester 2
AA has to leave. We can’t go on like this.
Something in between makes sense, but I believe we will win on Saturday. Will be tuning in (hopefully) in Menorca.

Re: Darlington V Gloucester
I hope we aren’t going to underestimate them, are they still full-time/hybrid?
Be a very tough game.

Re: Darlington V Gloucester
Think they abandoned full-time model at start of 2022, but on their website there are only pics of half the squad so presumably not had a lot of time together. Either that or their web-master is rather slow on updating it

Re: Darlington V Gloucester
Got alot more youngsters in the team than Darlo a couple on loan last season returning which could work two ways, full of energy running our defenders ragged like happened against Boro U21 or we use our experience pass the ball around well and get an early goal like Whitby first half. Important we don't loose Saturday as not starting good last season took us a long time to turn around. Hoping Rose fit and Maddison starts well and enjoys himself

Hulbert was their main danger last season but think he returned to Bristol Rovers.eddie-rowles wrote:Got alot more youngsters in the team than Darlo a couple on loan last season returning which could work two ways, full of energy running our defenders ragged like happened against Boro U21 or we use our experience pass the ball around well and get an early goal like Whitby first half. Quick Google search shows he's signed for Yeovil now.QUAKERMAN2 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 8:27 amHulbert was their main danger last season but think he returned to Bristol Rovers.eddie-rowles wrote:Got alot more youngsters in the team than Darlo a couple on loan last season returning which could work two ways, full of energy running our defenders ragged like happened against Boro U21 or we use our experience pass the ball around well and get an early goal like Whitby first half. I think the dangermen for Gloucester are Lucas Tomlinson (who scored against us at their place in the 2-2 draw) & CF Matt McClure.
Re: Darlington V Gloucester
I think we will win 2-1 , Hazel and Lambert scoring
Assuming Rose won’t be fit enough to start I’d go for a starting 11 of -
Taylor
Griffiths Wheater Lawlor Hedley
Maddison Moke Purver Lambert
Beck. Hazel
Subs
Martin
Sukar
Rose
Rivers
Mondal

Sukar in at left back for me. I was very impressed when I saw him play.
Also would like to start with Rose and bring him off when he tires.

Yep - Whitby got in several times down our right and scored after springing the offside trap.Old Git wrote:Doubt you were at Whitby then.My opinion wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:59 pm

Correct. I did not make the Whitby game, but Hedley had a really tough time against Guisely.Old Git wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 4:32 pmDoubt you were at Whitby then.My opinion wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:59 pm

I can only comment on what I have seen.

Sukar got caught a couple of times against Rochdale as well.Quaker85 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 8:35 pmYep - Whitby got in several times down our right and scored after springing the offside trap.Old Git wrote:Doubt you were at Whitby then.My opinion wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:59 pm

It does make sense it would take a defender a few games to get on same wavelength as his team mates with when to step out though.

This is it, the waiting’s over, all I want from the team is total commitment, start the game on the front foot and try their best to secure a win, that’s it.

Very excited about today's opener, very decent weather, which will hopefully attract a healthy crowd.

Re: Darlington V Gloucester
I’d like to see us give 4-4-2 a chance as I think Beck and Hazel have all the attributes to be a lethal partnership. Also a midfield of Moke, Rose/Purver doesn’t give you much going forward so you need to compensate higher up the pitch. Felix in from the start, might seem a gamble but he’s had a full pre season with Peterborough and is a more natural winger than Lambert/Maddison.

Got the wrong, Rivers not in the squad, or Sukar and Rose

With Winstanley,Hughes, Emery and Felix on the bench, it’s no wonder we made those signings yesterday.Darlopartisan wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 1:35 pmGot the wrong, Rivers not in the squad, or Sukar and Rose
