This is getting beyond a joke, someone needs to be deleting all these posts about viagra. Surely whoever wants viagra has already got it by now!!

One of these pests sent me a personal message the other day, take them off and ban them.

It’s spam Pete, calm yourself down.

I’m sure when 1 of the mods has time, these posts will be deleted and posters removed.

They have a life barring running this messageboard.

Then they'll start posting on the other forum's, it's getting beyond a joke. Hopefully something will be done sooner rather than later.

Do you include them in the roll of honour, Pete?

A surprising number of spambots are actually very clever, and they don't post in the top board on a forum as it's usually the most popular one and would therefore attract immediate attention.

Most of the point is to get backlinks from "reputable" (yeah, it's Uncovered...) sources in order to try and bump their scams up in search engines. They don't want to put it front and centre because it would be deleted too quickly to have the desired effect.

You asked a few weeks ago why there are loads of dormant accounts - here's your answer. Sleeper spambots waiting for instructions. I already have all reasonable measures in place to prevent them signing up, which is why a good number of them sign up via normal residental PCs compromised by other means - all we can do is react when they get through and start causing trouble.

There we go, deleted and banned all those accounts. They were all registered in 2015, by the way - before we really started ramping up the efforts to stop them signing up. Just sat there.

I've half a mind to purge old accounts if I can find something in the admin panel to do that, actually...

I do try and keep an eye out for the spam but I've been working night shifts

I've noticed that there hasn't been any new registered posters for quite a while. Is this to stop unwanted posts and if there is a genuine fan how can they registered to post on here?

Given some of the supercilious responses on this forum Pete, why would they want to?

A DNSBL went rogue and was identifying every new signup as a spammer. It's taken until now for me to figure that out, but hopefully new users can get in now (and the remaining blacklists will work to keep the spammers out)

I'm going to begin purging the database of some of the older signups that were never activated, so the user number might drop over the next few days.

Great work Mike, it's been a whole lot better since they've stopped posting on here. Hopefully new posters will be able to get on and start to post there thoughts.

Mikkyx- your filter has missed one spambot, which clogs up the board with banal, pointless comments.

Its username is Darlo_Pete.

Yep, you're right.

Banal, pointless, unwanted - tezza also seems to have slipped the net.

Yep, pointless people holding bizarre grudges. That's you banktopp.

Although given tezza recently backed you up in one of the many threads slagging me off, it's unusual for you to say he's a banal, pointless spambot.

I keep highlighting all the spam on here as it seems to have got worse, but either someone doesn't consider it all spam or nobody that can change things has looked. If this spam isn't removed it will just encourage others to have a go.

I'd guess it's all automatic so it really doesn't encourage others to have a go.

Well there's plenty to delete now, we've been invaded, brings back memories of our invasions of other clubs MB's on the old rivals network. Those were the days.

Looks like it needs tidying up again; I don't understand all this rubbish appearing but it spoils the site.

I've never seen so much rubbish, it's usually one or two threads, not dozens and dozens. I'm sure we'll get an explanation as to how this has happened.

You're on nearly 11,000 posts now, you tell us ;)

It's automated. I guess we're flavour of the month. I've tidied the board up two or three times already as time allows but it ain't stopping them.
