Honestly think this ref has had a nightmare game.

And that’s all she wrote. See you in August.
Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
Not great today, but have we seen a worse ref this season?
Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
I thought Reid was going to smash that in the bottom corner. He bottled that one.
Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
Not sure what the ref was playing at there - fake injury in stoppage time, and then doesn't add a second on for it
And it looked like a pen near the end
What a frustrating game. Lets hope next season is better all round

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
Never gave us a thing, nailed on pen, every time they went down he gave them a free kick, we were getting fouled and let the game go, and blew dead on 5 mins added time.He was dreadful all game.Having said that, McGuire and Campbell couldn't hit a barn door.Golden opportunity lost here, very poor at the back also.tdk1 wrote:Not great today, but have we seen a worse ref this season?
Really missed Charman today, our 2 centre forwards far too easily knocked off the ball.

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
Not just a penalty. Red card for handball too. Knew exactly what he was doing. Bet he couldn't believe it when there was no whistle.
Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
I mean, I'm not really one to moan about gamesmanship as I love it when we do it (very rarely, incidentally), but they were delaying and claiming everything and wasting time and the ref was gobbling it up like he couldn't get enough. Why blow dead on 95 when he's stopped the game for a minute for a phony injury during stoppage time?
We were very frustrating today, and gave away cheap goals again, and once again failed to break down a team that packed the box, so I'm not saying the ref is the reason we lost, but he was terrible.
Such a wasted opportunity today, so disappointing in so many ways.

Fittingly god awful end to the season at home. Almost every performance I enjoyed this year was away from Blackwell Meadows . Ref was really terrible but at the same time I'm not sure we deserved anything today.
Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
Don’t be blaming the referee for Christ’s sake.We were fucking woeful in front of goal.Dont think I’ve ever seen such a bunch of shot shy players as we’ve got now.
You’ve got 6 months now Mr Armstrong, get at it for the start of 21/22 please.

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
You’ve clearly been watching a different match, the problem was we were shooting too much and didn’t have any composure and yes this time I think the ref played quite a big part in this game.
Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
Watched the same game as you but I think I’m a bit more realistic than you.
Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
Realistic that we didn’t shoot enough?
Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
Good summary ultimately we only had ourselves to blame for losing that match.tdk1 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 5:16 pmI mean, I'm not really one to moan about gamesmanship as I love it when we do it (very rarely, incidentally), but they were delaying and claiming everything and wasting time and the ref was gobbling it up like he couldn't get enough. Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
I fall down more on the Emdubya side of the argument. We had plenty of players taking an extra touch.
For all we should have had a penalty that actually came from Campbell taking an extra touch. First time shot and he might well have scored.
Frustrating afternoon all round but we didn’t play well enough, regardless of the referee.
Big summer coming up if we’re to be promotion contenders next season. We’re not far off but still a couple of pieces of the jigsaw missing. A big part of that is moving the ball quicker in the final third, particularly against sides who are sitting back.

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
I think we would have won this game with Charman playing. I've been told that Macguire has an injury or something, this might explain why he had a bad game but Campbell and others don't seem to cope at home when opposition teams go into "scrappy mode"!! This seems to be a fault running through our team and it makes today so disappointing.
As others have said - what a wasted opportunity and now of course the longest close of season ever!

Let's not forget Hatfield's first yellow either after he'd been fouled.
Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
Or the ludicrous failure to play advantage when rivers broke.
Absolutely our own fault we lost the game, and Hatfield was daft for both yellows really, but the ref was bad.

Looked lacking in confidence and didn't pull the trigger when required. Gutted.
Beer helps. What a let down. I feel weirdly disconnected to this season but was up for today.

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
I couldn't help notice (especially in the first half) that the Ref was in the way quite a lot. The ball was hitting him and when one of players was looking for a quick pass he would often be too close and make things difficult.

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
Today was reminiscent of some of our home games earlier in the season when we struggled against physical teams. You can blame the ref and bad luck if you like but what happened today has occurred too many times to be coincidental.
Plenty of possession and shooting opportunities but poor decision making and execution to blame for losing a game we should be winning. It is forgivable given the lack of recent game time but is something we need to sort out if we are to be serious promotion contenders next season.

Yes, O.G. I agree. The Ref was poor but we should and could have done so much better.

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
This season needs putting in the rear view mirror very quickly, quite surreal that it has ended in February after a cup defeat.
Lets hope come August we'll be looking back on this and laughing about it.

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
18 shots suggests we are far from shot shy.
What we are bad at mainly is making the correct choice when in possession at key moments and switching off when we don't have possession in key moments.
Take both their goals today, first one Liddle switches off when they break into the box meaning his runner is unmarked to score and then for the second he gives the ball away cheaply and it leads to the penalty.
Then we have Sousa in the first half trying to take on the world very time he gets the ball and not looking to play in a team mate in a better position, then second half being the total opposite.
Finally Reid, he does ok when he comes on then his arse drops out in front of goal so he passes instead of shooting!
There are other examples obviously but its enough to prove a point as to why sometimes we struggle.

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
Didn’t play well today and same old same old when faced with a packed defence.
Really like Sousa but he is equally so so frustrating! He could be such a better player, and he is good now, if he just released the ball to better placed players At times. Guess that’s why he is at this level.
Think we need maybe 3/4 players who are just outright winners with more of a physical size to them to play alongside our extremely talented but physically light ones.
At least we will hopefully see them in action next time we play at home. Over to AA now To do what he is pretty good at generally and recruit the right calibre of players.
Looking forward to it Already!
