Maybe get Chris Senior back so we have a Junior/Senior strike partnership.
🤣 wish I had got that one in!

Still hopeful Sousa will sign, he knows he is in the first 11 here, moving on up and moving on out, he will have to work his way into the team. Junior looks a good player, and probably too good for this level but as he says he wants to get his confidence back and playing week in week out.

I'm not sure I see Mondal signing as an indicator of Sousa decision. I genuinley think we want him to stay, hope he stays but wouldn't pass up the opportunity to sign Mondal waiting for his decision.

Interesting to see (as Gramps put in a different thread) the retained list. No mention of Laing. Holness, Hudson, McMahon and Sousa showing as out of contract, which could mean we’ve offered and we are waiting (like we are led to believe with Sousa) or we aren’t offering a contract yet

Holness Hudson McMahon and Sousa have been announced as out of contract, but no mention of Laing - this came from an e-mail from the club

Agree on Mondal hopefully he could turn out to be a real asset once he gets some games under his belt.

Joey Hope now confirmed, LB from Grimsby. Looking at their local press seems like he was fairly well thought of as a young prospect until Paul Hurst's return: www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/footba ... 442366.amp

Think I'm right in saying we can just about put a starting 11 together now.

It isn't even a bad side.

Taylor
Griffiths
Beeden
Storey
Hope
Hedley
Hatfield
Wheatley
Sousa
Charman
Mondal / Rivers

Definitely need a centre midfielder, and without doubt cover beyond a starting XI!

Looks strong though.

Remove Sousa and replace with Holmes and that is the current 12 players we have signed up.

We are certainly looking more youthful currently, my guess is we need between 6-8 more players and some experience in centre back and forward positions.

I honestly think we could either crash from lack of experience or be excellent with youthful vigour, so we will probably be hit and miss midtable

I don’t see Hope being our first choice left back , could be totally wrong. I also would expect us to add another , more experienced, centre back

Wonder if AA will have two keepers this season too ?

By my reckoning we still need (assuming worst case scenario and we lose Sousa and Holness and Hudson aren't retained):
CB
LB / LCB
CM
LW
CAM
ST

Others may want a back up goalkeeper but I think they're always a bit of a luxury for clubs like us with small budgets.

Agree with the list except maybe a LW. We have to assume we have Holmes and Rivers surely?

We will see on Hope, Left Back is a bit specific to sign someone and then have them as only a squad player. It does depend on the experience of the rest of the back four, however I do agree an 18/19 year old with no one else battling for that position would be a risky move.

I don't think we will go with two keepers, just seems like a waste of cash when you can try and get one on loan to fill any gaps required.

Unlikely that Holness will be back based on AA’s recent interview. Guy lives in Bristol, so he’ll see whether he can get signed up down there, which I’m sure he will. Hudson will get a chance to impress in pre season. AA was keen to stress he hasn’t been exposed to men’s football enough. Laing is out for most of season. I took it to mean that he’s not on a contract and he’ll still get physio help from us. He might get a chance when he’s back

Ideally for me you'd have 4 players battling for those two wide positions, especially considering what Holmes has been through injury-wise in recent years. Any issues and you're left with two players in those two positions. Tbf it's the kind of position that's potentially more easily filled by a loanee from one of the big clubs. I don't think we've used loanees to top up the squad quite as well as we could have over the last couple of years.

Think as well there is potential for some efficiency in that list. If you could find a Midfielder in the style of Dave Syers then you can cover off the CM/CAM with one player.
