Wonder if this will get a mention on BBC Look North?

Nice of the Northern Echo to do an article about beating last year's total and giving constant encouragement over the last few weeks for Darlington residents to support their local club. Oh hang on...

The Northern Echo is an irrevelance now anyway. The fact that it has so far ignored one of the North-east's biggest fundraisers involving hundreds of people right in the middle of its patch speaks volumes about how dramatically it has declined.

Surprised it is still going to be honest. I can see it becoming a weekly paper or even closing all together. Sad reflection of the times but that is progress for you.

Haha I suspect that might be how the NE feel about a 6th tier football club. Regardless of the brilliant effort made the issue is how much do other people actually 'care'.

It feels like it should be a newsworthy, given what local news usually entails but they are a somewhat neutral and commercially incentivised judge on what the public care about.

There is actually an argument that inches of newspaper coverage would be a good performance metric for the club.

The Northern Echo has had its day, surely this fund raising deserves a mention and I would imagine would be of interest to football fans across the region. No surprise they show little interest in our club as this has been the case for a number of years now.

There's no getting away from the fact that the overwhelming majority of the hard copies that the Echo sells are sold in and around Darlington. Which made it all the more surprising that they spent years giving a huge amount of coverage to a football team in Hartlepool where they sell a handful of copies.

Their coverage in general of local news and sport has declined to a depressingly dire level. I wouldn't use them as a metric for anything.

I imagine total hard copies sold are plummeting, whilst the web is just click bait for top 10 lists etc.

The Echo only sells around 15,000 copies now, maybe akin to the newspaper equivalent of a 6th tier football club.

Fair enough. In that case I guess we shouldn't really be bothered what they do.

Sadly local newspaper like the echo and Chronicle, Sunday Sun are over 50% adds and why I stopped my subscription when Craig and sports team were made redundant and echo copied and pasted from DFC website. However like BTB our clubs media, website, quaker Tv , twitter etc is improving all the time and is an important source for fans and owners. Hopefully those away games we can't make will be allowed to be streamed ?

Congratulations on a massive total, surpassing all expectations. Now up to AA to build the squad that takes us up to NL.However, Covid might still scupper things with crowd numbers restrictions & potential travel bans so may have to rely on QTV which brings NL rules into conflict with fans needs. Fingers crossed it all turns out well & another trip to Wembley at least.

Haha nothing like high expectations...

Wembley means we have to get to the FA Trophy final or FA Cup semi-finals doesn't it?
