I wonder where the fine money goes. With all the clubs involved it's a nice little earner, brought about by the League's incompetence, because let's face it - if the second tranche of funding had been loans then all clubs would have played on.
Well strictly speaking it would be the clubs who would benefit from the assets if the company were dissolved.

The league is not for profit after all there are no shareholders who receive a dividend. The members are the clubs themselves. It would just be part of the annual split of funds to the clubs if there is an excess left over.

Per the accounts they appear as 'members funds'

The plot thickens. So in theory all the fines, inc Dover's 40k (if paid) could be divided up and paid out as some kind of bonus? Split between all clubs at both steps?

Could end up on a roundabout, with funds from the fines distributed the same way as the original grants. The mind boggles.

Not quite. The league is a not for profit limited by guarantee of the members (clubs).

Their last annual accounts showed a surplus of £54k which was attributable to members.

It doesn't mean it will be split quite so simply, they will hold funds like any sensible organisation would. The money that the clubs receive annually is ultimately the distribution of funds in the NL accounts from it activities minus costs.

There is already a set formula for this. These are the funds that ultimately the league would to some extent had stopped paying clubs had they taken the loans on behalf of the clubs.

Was it about £25k a year or something like that for a Step 2 club. Remember it wasn't an immaterial amount of our budget.

Appeals are generally a waste of time. Fact is we didnt play the game as they thought we should. They rarely care about reasons why. Even if you think you have a clear cut justification they get you on a technicality by wording any charge in a way that theres no way out of it.

Thinking back to an old interview - D.J. (and advisor) were adamant that they had multiple strong legal reasons why that game wasn't played. They sounded good to me as well, I suppose I'm biased here but even so, I don't think D.J. would pick a fight that he didn't think he could (or should) win.

Meanwhile, as said above the rules simply weren't designed to include a global pandemic, mixed with the league's grants 'will be loans' fiasco.

I wonder where the fine money goes. With all the clubs involved it's a nice little earner, brought about by the League's incompetence, because let's face it - if the second tranche of funding had been loans then all clubs would have played on.
In a normal court of law the club will have had good grounds for an appeal. However we are talking about an appeal within the governing bodies of football, a private members club that can interpret rules as they like. It is usually the case that any charges are worded in a way that means you get found guilty anyway, no matter what your defence is.
