Brackley away 14/9/21

Post by Old Git » Mon Sep 13, 2021 8:10 am

Just the game you want on a Tuesday night when you are bottom of the league and they are going well. I suppose we don’t have much expectation riding on this one so even a scrappy 0-0 would be seen as a great result. Realistically keeping a clean sheet looks unlikely so perhaps I will go for 2-2 in the hope that our forwards can do some damage.
I think the 5-3-2 formation will be ditched and replaced with a 4-3-3.
Taylor
Griffiths Storey Cooper Smith
Wheatley Hatfield Purver
Charman Cassidy Rivers

Subs Martin Beedon Mondal Dos Santos Nelson.

I agree with this team selection, until we get more confidence and start defending better I can't see Mondal or Dos Santos starting

Can't wait, three and a half hours on the road to the Northern powerhouse city of Brackley for the lads followed by a game against the single-goal-victory kings. I really wish these feckers would just bugger off and get promoted despite the locals being a welcoming and friendly bunch. They seem to be financed every year to be a complete pain in the arse for most sides but then just decide at the death to stay put and torture the rest of us some more :D

My second closest game of the season, so I'm looking forward to finally going along and watching us live. Maybe I shouldn't be based on Brackley's current form. They really are an annoying side, same group seem to have been together for years and each season you wonder will the cracks start to show, are they getting a bit older and bit slower, but nope, solid as a rock in defence and with enough weapons that they always pose a threat. Its really bloody annoying. Hoping we can build something on the back of our first point of the season at Blyth. They're a big side so we're going to have to man up and make ourselves known if we're going to get anything cause they will have no problem slinging the ball into the box from set pieces. For our forwards, they're going up against the best defence in the league so again going to have to bring our A game to create chances.

Agree with the OP we should be going back to a back 4. But can't decide 4-3-3 or 4-4-2. My concern with 4-3-3 using the players listed above is that's its naturally unbalanced because in reality Charman & Cassidy will want to be more central. If thats the case then would we be weaker down that side? On that basis I've gone 4-4-2 very conventional, everyone should know what their job is.

At least it is away, as looking at the weather forecast for Blackwell Meadows, could have been in jeopardy. Will be a massive test for the team and any points would be a good result.

It’s going to be a difficult choice between playing a solid 3 in midfield and playing Charman centrally with Cassidy. AA could go 4-3-1-2 with someone like Rivers of KDS in behind the front 2 (don’t think he’ll risk Nelson from the start yet)

Might be a bit late now, but does anyone know if there’s availability on the Supporters Coach for the game tonight?

Wasn’t gonna go, but decided I fancy it now. Cheers!

I would suggest you go to the 'horses mouth' by giving Glen a ring on 07376 368553

Only 125 miles for me - first game of the season. Lot of rain due in the area so hope the pitch can cope. At least don’t have to set off until after 4.30 ish. Don’t expect anything from the game but hope we can build on second half on Sat and get ourselves sorted for more winnable games and start our cup run against Chester.

 One - nil to Darlo and Nelson will score, Why not? There's a history of Quakers unlikely away wins when we're struggling; York a couple of seasons ago, Swindon in the cup - I saw us prevail at Port Vale once after we'd been dull at Hull and a second half stinkeroo at home to Crewe. I enjoyed the picture from Donny Rovers training ground, was one of the 'defenders' Clive Nattrass ?

Hope we play well and take something from the game. I certainly can’t criticise the team selection if we don’t. 😄

Got to say as far as first halfs away at Brackley go. That was excellent. Not given them a shot on goal, and barring a 10 minute spell between 30-40 mins we've controlled the ball well and taken the sting out of it against the 10 men.

Red card all day long stretching over the top of the ball onto Rivers. Goal was nicely worked and well finished low to the right by Cassidy.

Need the second half to match it now. Win by 2 goals and we can get to 17th which was the maximum achievable at the start of the night.

Looks like we may well have the solid defensive line-up we've been looking for because big, physical Brackley provide the toughest of tests. Presumably Rotherham have given permission for Cooper to feature for us in the FA Cup. Good to see Storey showing the sort of form that we all knew he was capable of.

Great result. Looks like we have found a system that suits and the players to carry it out. Great effort all round and special mention for Alex Storey who has had plenty of criticism but sounds like he did well tonight. Also Luke Charman now scored in last 3 games and he seems to be forming a good partnership with Jake Cassidy.
