Away to Newton Aycliffe - Tue 19th Oct

As above in County Cup.

Rather than training be good to see a number of players get game time including Nelson, Purver, Mondal, B.Taylor, Rose, Lambert, Beauchamp, maybe even Cooper to get him ready for Saturday.

Hopefully the club advise squad in advance.

Aycliffe advised the below

Could be a difficult game as I think the first team are away at Southport on the same night.

That's because I put the wrong date, it's actually this Tuesday 19th. Will change title.

Game time is key for some players though. Likes of Nelson who has missed the last few weeks, needs and I would imagine will want game time. Same for the other players who have been at best subs in the last few weeks. Keeping squad players match sharp is important, wouldn't suggest any of the 11 from Saturday play though.

See Club site seems a strong line up and perfect opportunity for players to build up fitness and understanding.

Might be an inconvenience if we were struggling with injuries and suspensions. Will give some of our fringe players valuable game time unless you have a better plan?

Looks an ideal opportunity for Nelson to get valuable minutes in a competitive game and hopefully grab a goal or two.

Cant comment on performance levels but a win is a win and some good minutes for players who haven't played regularly. Well done to the lads, especially looking at the back line played. Not many first team appearances in there and even less playing time together. Good to see Mondal and Lambert on the score sheet and some good minutes for Nelson, shame he couldn't get on the score sheet in normal time but good to see he stepped up and tucked away his penalty.

Agreed a useful workout for fringe players and a good result against a team doing well in their league. All positive as long as no injuries sustained and the prospect of another game coming up in the next round. Has to be better than another training session for those involved and good preparation for a step up to the first eleven if needed.

Totally agree, Old Git. Much better to have some real opposition than just training drills. Having lost the first few after the delayed start due to Covid, it has been good to see the team improving with more competitive minutes played, provided we don't pick up any injuries.

First 20 mins or so Darlo hardly got out of there own half, but grew into the game. Played some nice football at times, Lambert looked good and tricky with quick feet, and you could see the quality and awareness of Nelson, quite few of the young lads did themselves proud too. Felt a bit sorry for our young left back as most of there attacks came down that side with speedy movement down that side by Aycliffe. Omar at right fullback stood out for me, looked really good going forward, with speed and skill, maybe still a little to do defending but looks a good promising player for the future.

Aycliffe played well, physically strong, and quick movement down the wing, with decent central defenders, draw at full time was fair result I thought.

Good run out for the first team lads, and will have helped the young lads playing against men who were strong and physical ( not dirty) with a bit of skill.

Thanks for this "Fans eye" view of the game. Omar's last game for us as out on loan at FC United now for a bit! But he is dual registered I think so can come back at any time. Hope he continues to improve.
