Kettering v Darlo

Post by JE93 » Thu Nov 04, 2021 8:45 am

Tougher test incoming this weekend against a Kettering team who have played limited games compared to to rest of the league, have been low scoring but also very defensively solid. With Paul Cox as the manager we can expect a physical game and it will be a real test as to whether we've learned and improved compared to the game against Southport.

With charman now suspended and Nelson still nursing his way back to fitness can see us starting with Cassidy as a lone front man in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Lambert given a free role in behind him. Big questions are whether Ellis and Smith will be available, if either is I'd bring them back into the side as both were performing well prior to their injuries. Have gone for Cooper over Storey as against a Pual Cox side I think we're in for a bit of an aerial bombardment and Cooper is a bit more of a head it and kick it defender. In the middle I've kept Purver in the team, sounded like he had a good game albeit against a limited Guiseley side, so he keeps his place.

------------------------ Taylor ----------------------
Griffiths ------ Ellis --- Cooper --- Smith
--------------- Purver --- Hatfield -------------
Dos Santos --- Lambert --------- Rivers
---------------------- Cassidy --------------------

Subs: Storey, Hedley, Wheatley, Nelson, Mondal

Looks like a real 'settle for a point' game to me but given the improvements we've seen I say we can travel in hope.

Yep, agree with JE93. If Ellis and/or Smith are back, they have to play. This is exactly the sort of game we’ve struggled with this season so dealing with physical and aerial threats well is critical to getting something here.

No reason to drop Purver, given how off the boil Wheatley has been this season and Lambert is in form so has to continue.

Have they not got Covid issues in the squad?

Looks like they last played on 19 th October in a FA Cup replay at Buxton which they lost 3-1. Since then they have had their last 3 games postponed so they come in to this game without playing for 18 days. Up to us to exploit any rustiness in their players and try to get off to a flying start. Hopefully we will have Ellis and Smith back in the team and possibly switch Hedley into right back.

Looks like Ellis maybe fit, Smith is is still out and Wheatley won’t travel to Kettering because of personal reasons.

Would be good to have Ellis back. Our squad has now cover & sufficient depth to allow Smith & Wheatly to be rested until 100% without too much disruption to team. Perhaps Rose might get a start after showing some good touches against Guiseley

We need to play wingers against them and get plenty of crosses in. That's how Buxton beat them in the cup. They have had Covid issues but have kept quiet over how many cases they have had or any news ones reported. Feel very confident for 3 points this Saturday. Gone for a 3-1 win for Darlo.

Useful injury update from Danny below. At least we know who is not starting against Kettering.

Kettering look shaky at the back against Buxton as mentioned need Rivers and santos to get the ball into the box with only four wins and most teams around us played les games definately need a win

Gone for a 4 4 1 1
Taylor,

Dos Santos Purver Hatfield Rivers,
———————Lambert,
———————Cassidy,
Lambert’s quality could course chaos for any defence
given his quality and vision.

Rose gets his first start, obviously Ellis wasn't ready. Hopefully Cooper and Storey can do the job.

Big test for the defence today especially Cooper and Storey in the middle. Hope they can step up to the physical challenge.

1-1. Lambert free kick.

If we could defend we’d be decent.

ApologiesI typed too quick Flash scores had our 3rd goal right under Cooper so I assumed it was his. Took them a few minutes to put Hatfield's name against it!

Great result and character to come back from that own goal. Looking like Lambert could be a helluva signing, Ellis, Smith and Charman to come back, feeling much more positive about this season
