A Load Of Bull****!

by Scott Thornberry - 25th June 2010

a load of bull****!

Could this be the biggest case of fiction since Harry Potter decided to pick up a philosphers stone.  It is a story which is more inkeeping with an episode of Living TV's Fact or Fiction but it could be more at home on Beyond Belief.

The rumour of Simon Daveys departure started on Uncovered when Quakerz posted about a Hereford fan stating Davey was joining them.  This fan had claimed that the Hereford chairman had told him Davey was to arrive at Edgar Street,  24 hours of rumour and speculation went by before Darlington Football Club came out with a statement that they could not get hold of Davey, who at the time was coaching in America.

The next day though it was confirmed that Davey had resigned, but bizarrely he had done it by e-mail. Hereford United were stating that they would be unveiling their new manager in 7-10 days and that the manager was currently in employment.

Raj Singh and Graham Fordy continued to try and contact Davey but he was uncontactable.  The following day a hard copy of the e-mail arrived at The Arena and The Quakers decided to move on and quickly promoted Daveys assistant Ryan Kidd, who claims he knew nothing about what had happened to Davey.

Nobody had heard from the former gaffer and upon his return to the UK on Sunday he spoke to the Evening Gazette and claimed that he had not resigned to become Hereford manager.  "While I was away in America I received a fantastic financial offer from a USA soccer company and after long consideration with my family, I decided to tender my resignation."

Ofcourse Simon, ofcourse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Then in his final comment he adds “since my resignation, I’ve very recently had a number of clubs make enquiries through my agent. So I’ve got a lot to think about with regards to my future.”

Who am I to tell you what the truth is or not, I don't know.  But do people actually think people are so gullable and naive?

Anyway surprise surprise, a couple of days later Simon is announced as Herefords new boss and today at the press conference he again tries to claim that he resigned for a job in America and then Hereford came along after that.

Their chairman, Graham Turner, said  "The first time we sat down to talk was on Monday of this week, But equally I have to accept that the speculation has possibly got us to where we have ended up,"   What the hell does he mean by that like?

Davey still continues with his story though.  "I got off the flight and had a telephone call that led to me sitting down with the new ownership here at Hereford,"

"They offered me the chance to manage a club of this stature with these ambitions and that outweighed the prospect of my going to America,"

Whatever the truth is all we can say is good riddance.  If he cannot have the decency to actually speak to his employers about his resignation then he is nothing but a coward.  Yes, his contract no doubt stated he only had to put his resignation in writing, but come on, common decency means that you surely would phone Raj and explain.  Totally bizarre!!

Raj Singh tonight issued a statement condemming both Daveys and Herefords actions.

“I’m absolutely infuriated. I’ve said nothing since we discovered he would end up at Hereford on Tuesday but I’ve listened to what they’ve all had to say today and they’re just insulting my intelligence. The rumours about Davey going to Hereford surfaced just under a fortnight ago, on Monday June 14, and as the saying goes, there’s no smoke without fire.”

“These rumours suddenly emanated from the Hereford end while Davey was in the States and uncontactable, and yet he wasn’t being linked with any of the other 91 league clubs, so it begs the question, why Hereford? Then David Keyte makes a statement saying they will appoint their manager in ten days, which suggests they knew exactly who it was going to be. Low and behold, ten days after Davey has emailed me his original resignation, Hereford announce him as their new manager.”

“The supposed States job was a smokescreen for this whole charade and for Davey to think everyone at Darlington FC believes it is an insult to the club and our fans. It seemed convenient that nobody, his agent and his friend of ten years, our manager Ryan Kidd, could not even get hold of him, but I don’t believe that, either. Davey was not big enough to speak to me direct and that’s the most disappointing thing in all of this. It’s difficult to sit on the fence in these situations when someone is blatantly taking you for a ride, but I’m absolutely livid.”

“It just goes to show that Hereford United and Simon Davey cannot be trusted. They are not honourable people and don’t do their business in the right way. I can sleep at night knowing that I do my business properly. I certainly don’t consider making illegal approaches. I’ve been asked about taking the legal route but in my view it isn’t worth it. Unfortunately these seedy deals do go on in football. We’ll maintain our approach to the way we do our business and be grateful we’ve had a lucky escape with a manager whose word I can’t take at face value.”

“I just hope Hereford’s fans don’t pin their hopes on what Davey has had to say too much. I found it ironic that a lot of his comments today mirrored what he said when he joined us in April. He’s walked away from one job since then, resigning by email, and has apparently turned another down after accepting it before going on to say ‘all the right things’ at another club. Having just taken over at Hereford after a turbulent time for their fans, I’d suggest Keyte rethinks the way he goes about his business, despite his comments today insisting he’s done nothing wrong.”

“I’d never want anything bad to happen to another club simply for the sake of their fans, but with the chairman and manager they have in charge now, I wish them all the very best of luck.”

Well said Raj!!

Having not seen Stevenage for about 10 years, I think I'll pop along this coming season.
Which game to go to, that's the question.

Ah, Yes! Stevenage v (the mighty) Hereford, right behind the away dugout.

wylam_rangers - 25th June 2010 20:42:08

Where are the comments from the mystery US group behind his fantastic offer? He's let them down as well - the lying b******. Oh - I see Paul Scholes is about to announce his retirement. How Convenient! Watch out Hereford - this is a fill-in for a few months!!!

Davey is an absolout tit, can't stand the man for what he has done to us.

Hilly - 25th June 2010 21:06:18

Normally somebody would take legal action for the comments that Raj has made there - somehow I don't think they will. I wonder why...

I'm guesssing it's because Raj would only be able to sue SD for a month's salary.

I actually meant the other way round i.e. SD suing RS.

Maybe we should get at least one Darlo fan into every Hereford away game (not home ones, that'd put money in their pockets) to chant Judas all the way through the 90 minutes?

darloborn - 25th June 2010 22:47:03

Sorry Hilly

Quakerz - 25th June 2010 23:04:00

The American offer is obviously a smokescreen and I can't believe that no journalist has actually asked - WHO and WHAT fantastic offer it was in America? Yeah it might have been the Paul Scholes thing, for what two weeks a year? Not going to make a living doing that is he? Mmmmm, maybe the fantastic offer was something else - come on the Davey let us have the details?

Oh, that's right there isn't any.

Fooking wanker, it got out that he was off to Hereford the same weekend that he e-mailed his resignation.

TinShedDarloFan - 26th June 2010 00:29:12

What a brilliant statement from Raj Singh, he's come out and said everything us fans think about the whole situation, we can only hope that we get to the fa cup 1st round and draw Hereford at home
