New Uncovered Line Up

by Scott Thornberry - 12th July 2010

new uncovered line up

In 1997 Darlo Uncovered was formed in a box room in Hartington Way, Darlo.  Originally set up when the internet was in its infancy there was no other Darlo website out there.  All that existed was the Darlo mailing list which was operated by Ted Blair/DAFTS and the Mission Impossible messageboard.

Darlo Uncovered brought all the news from the local media about Darlington Football Club into one location, with our messageboard link taking readers to the MI messageboard.  The lads at MI went on to pastures new and kindly handed over the reigns to Uncovered and so the full Uncovered website was complete.

In 2001 we joined the Rivals network where we stayed until just over 12 months ago. One of the main reasons for joining Rivals was financial, I couldn't really justify the costs and time spent on the site where Rivals paid hosting fees etc so it was a win win.  But Rivals went and we were thrown into the abyss with no warning!!

Within 10 minutes of finding out Rivals has ceased trading I contacted Dave Aiken, who I had become friends with through Uncovered and in particular Uncovered FC.  Dave is a website designer by trade and we had discussed the previous year setting up an independent Uncovered away from Rivals.  Thankfully he agreed to help us out.  A long standing season ticket holder he was eager to actually design a website for something he has great interest in, he also snapped up the services of his colleague Michael Price who is also a suffering Darlo fan.

They were quick to get the foundations set up for the new Uncovered and had a fully functioning site up and running before the season started.  Superb work.  Michael is currently in the process of tweaking the site to bring us some new features for the new season.  At the moment Mike is also paying our hosting costs which we are also grateful for, but obviously this is not ideal so we will be looking at ways to raise revenue to cover our costs in the future.

More recently we have also added a couple of new faces to the team.  Firstly we have Divas, most of you will recognise him from the messageboard and I am very grateful that he has agreed to help me out in the content side of the site.  We also have Nick Richardson, currently studying journalism at Preston University, he has obviously felt guilty about taking tax payers money for so long he has felt the need to give something back.  Seriously though we are grateful to the Uncovered FC midfielder for also helping out.

The idea of adding to the Uncovered team is to give you, the readers, a wider variety of opinions and writing styles.  We all like a bit of variety in life.  It will also give us the chance to get breaking news onto the site faster than before.  I cannot be on site 24/7 but with 5 of us on board we should be on the ball a bit more.

Thanks to Dave and Mike our admin set up means that the lads can login in from anywhere in the world and publish their stories.  At the bottom of each story we shall be putting our names, just so you know who has published the article and you don't all assume it is me.

So our line up is as follows:

Tekkie lads:   Michael Price and Dave Aiken

Content: Scott Thornberry, Divas and Nick Richardson

Surely it is a Team of six, Roll of Honour - Darlo_Pete?

I make it eight.

Quakerz runs the opinion column and Andy Park doubles as research/foreign correspondent.

just like to say thanks to scott and the admin team for a fantastic platform and thanks for the opportunity to put some of my thoughts down, hope people enjoy it.

All the lads involved in the new site deserve a lot of praise for their passion, dedication and loyalty in keeping this online platform going purely for the love of DFC.

But I didn't see any of them at Exeter away on a midweek night back in October 1963. Only the real fans were there that night.

Having lived abroad for the last 8 years in both Holland and now the USA, Darlo Uncovered has been a key source of news about our club with the efforts of Scott and the team much appreciated. Keep up the good work :-)

Big thank you from me also. I've been living all over Europe these last 12 years and until I dicovered Uncovered found it really difficult to keep up to date with the Darlo news. These last weeks i sometimes wished that i wasn't able to keep up with the news, but anyway it all happened so now let's hope that Mark Cooper will produce the goods!

Indeed, "hurrah" for Scott and his "team".

(& I don't think anyone would take it amiss if you were to make this "Sticky" or an announcement to pin it at the top of the board for the time being.)
