where we used to stand

Jon Tait gives us a very unique view of our former home Feethams.  Some great creative thinking on show here.

great pics - just makes you wanna cry.

MKDarlo - 31st December 2011 13:23:11

that is a very good slide show - and VERY sad indeed

Quakerz - 31st December 2011 13:25:41

It looks like Feethams may cost a bit to spruce up!

mikkyx - 31st December 2011 13:29:35

I'll bring the lawnmower if you bring the materials to rebuild all the stands.

Did the East Stand ever get sold?

PierremontQuaker03 - 31st December 2011 13:33:58

all of that history gone ........

divas - 31st December 2011 13:34:35

East stand is at Farnborough now which is a shame as the company who removed it were giving it away.

I think Farnbrough Town bought it.

mikkyx - 31st December 2011 13:36:03

Thought it was them but couldn't remember for sure. Cheers. :)

AndyPark - 31st December 2011 13:38:17

I'll bring some paint and paint-brushes to start the re-building

Will Smith - 31st December 2011 13:42:27

Farnborough never bought it in the end, I believe it was still in storage in the North East or may have been scrapped by now. Either way it would have cost a couple of million to rebuild and fit out

loan_star - 31st December 2011 13:54:05

I dont care if the bogs stank, I dont care if for the majority of the time the games were crap, as far as I'm concerned Feethams is and always will be our home. Every time I go past the place now I just stand and look across what was the pitch and remember the great times I had supporting DFC and the good friends I've made during that time.

Haji el Maveric - 31st December 2011 14:01:14

I'll second that Robbo.

what has happened to the housing development - I guess in the current climate no one will build on it - do the cricket club still own the land?

As far as I can gather, a trust owns the land and the cricket club must act as custodians.

Whatever the arrangement, I find it grossly unfair that a cricket club with 20 followers on a handful of summer days gets to make decisions over a club that has thousands of followers.

Its long been the case of the tail wagging the dog with that lot.

quakerray - 31st December 2011 15:23:40

loved the pics, like everyone says you cant take those memories away.be nice to think one day we did go home.
are these available to buy or print, for putting in a frame.

Darlo_Pete - 31st December 2011 16:23:12

Very clever use of old photographs. The old girl is certainly now in a terrible state, but we'll never move back there.

Quakerz - 31st December 2011 16:31:47

Don't bet against it Pete. Plenty of people want it to happen.

Darlo_Pete - 31st December 2011 16:50:50

I want to win the Euro millions draw, it doesn't mean its going to happen. On the positive side if we did move back to Feethams, the new ground would be nothing like the old ground, which was well past its sell by date.

quakerray - 31st December 2011 17:01:16

yeah pete, you cant rebuild it there to look like the old one, but it should only be a 10.000 seater with maybe with keeping a bit of tradition of feethams. this mess all started with george thinking too big and building a 25k seater.when he said he wanted to be in the premier league in 5 years we didnt think he meant the blue square premier.

god knows every darlo fans wants us to move back home, but 1st off we need to stay in existance. in 7 months weve gone from being on top of the world to nothing to cheer about.

Vokuhila - 31st December 2011 17:15:29

As long as it's not sat underneath a housing estate, there'll surely always be the possibility of a return.

I wouldn't have the East Stand back, mind. Even though I was an ST holder in there for a couple of seasons, I'll never forgive it for what its foundations did to those worms.

Rest in peace, fellas

I strongly hope the Trust become more proactive on this issue and challenge the ludicrous conditions in which the cricket club dominate the Feethams sporting covenant.

It is possible for people to be elected to that board?

Also, it is a good opportunity for recruitment and positive PR for the Trust.

Fantastic pics. Made me realise what I miss from the white elephant. Loved the tin shed. Most of my youth was spent in the good old days.

Some great pics, very sad to see, sad to say I didn't visit Feethams for Wycombe's only game there - a 0-0 draw. Though from the footage I remeber one of the stands being sponsored by the defunct "Rabbit" phone company

And I am assuming that this must be the stand sold to Farnborough here, still being constructed on my last visit there 18 months ago

I don't suppose DIY SOS would be interested in doing it?

Anyone want to fire an e-mail off to them?

That's a different stand, I don't think the stand from Feethams ever made it there as the Farnborough chairman hit financial trouble not long after buying it.
